There is a tune (not a song, but maybe you can make words to it) called 'ferret panting' on Damien O'Kane and Shona Kipling's CD 'Box On'. They might still have it on their myspace.
If a hamster will do instead of a ferret, you can find Ed Pickford's song about 'Hamster Sid' on his youtube or songbook site.
And if a rat or mouse is an acceptable substitute, let me know and I will look up a Doc Watson song about a rodent that gets drunk...

No traditional songs about ferrets, I think; though they get a passing mention in some versions of 'While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping' (Roud 363). There's also 'The Ferrets and the Weasels' (Roud 3558), but only one example (unpublished) has that name; it seems to be a music hall song. I expect there are a few modern songs about putting them down your trousers, and there are certainly some modern dance tunes written more-or-less in traditional idiom that have 'ferret' in the title.

The Ferret Song

I've got a ferret sticking up my nose.
He's got a ferret sticking up his nose.
How it got there I can't tell,
but now it's there it hurts like hell,
And what is more it radically affects
my sense of smell. His sense of smell.

I've got a ferret sticking up my nose.
It pokes its head out every time he blows.
I can tolerate it for a while
although it's absolutely vile,
It's not as bad as last week when
I had a crocodile. A crocodile.

I can see a bare-bottomed mandril,
Slyly eying his other nostril.
I really don't know what to do, but if it jumps inside there too,
I shall be the proud possessor of a kind of nasal zoo. A nasal zoo.

I've got a ferret sticking up my nose,
And what is worse it constantly explodes.
Ferrets don't explode you say but it happened nine times yesterday,
And I should know 'cause each time I was standing in the way. 'Ding in the way

Tune: The Rose of England
Composer: Bob Leaper
Authors: Graham Chapman & John Cleese

"Ferret Song"
Music and Lyrics by Ricky Ian Gordon
from "My Life With Albertine"

Albertine, Andree, & Rosemonde
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
He just ran by.
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
He passed by me.

Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood

Albertine
Whom will I marry?

Girls
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood

Albertine
Whom will I love?

Girls
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Now come to me.
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Take him my glove.

Sweet ladies and gents
Diddle and diddle
Sweet ladies and gents
Diddle-i-do.

Albertine
Marry I will

Girls
Diddle and diddle

Albertine
Just tell me who

Girls
Diddle-i-do.

Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Where could he be?
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Where has he gone?

Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood

Albertine
Will I have children?

Girls
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood

Albertine
Or will I have none?

Girls and Marcel
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Where could he be?
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Where has he gone?

Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Will I have children?
Oh Ferret of Fairy Wood
Or will I have none?

The Ferret, It Runs (Children's Song)

Chorus
The ferret, it runs, it runs,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
It runs, it runs, the ferret,
The ferret of the pretty woods.

It passed by here
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
It passed by here,
The ferret of the pretty woods.

Chorus
The ferret, it runs, it runs,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
It runs, it runs, the ferret,
The ferret of the pretty woods.

It'll pass by there again,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
Guess if it's here,
The ferret of the pretty woods.

Chorus
The ferret, it runs, it runs,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
It runs, it runs, the ferret,
The ferret of the pretty woods.

The ferret is well hidden,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
Will you be able to find it?
The ferret of the pretty woods.

Other version

It runs, it runs, the ferret,
The ferret of the woods, my ladies.
It runs, it runs, the ferret,
The ferret of the pretty woods.
It passed by here,
It'll pass by there again.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned My Grandfather's Ferret , which can be found in several threads. Just do a forum search and it should pop-up.

A song called 'The Furze Field' from the Hammond & Gardiner collection has a verse which mentions ferrets:

"I have got a warren, my own dearest jewel,
Where all my fine rabbits do play,
And if you comes a-ferreting when ferreting's in season,
I'll tell you, love, how to proceed,
You bring your dog with you, your ferret in your hand,
Your spade and your nets all at your command,
And the ferret will bolt, and the rabbits will play,
And it's down to the bottom, and that's the right way."

People often snigger when this song is sung - can't think why!

The song is in the collection, 'Marrowbones', ed. Frank Purslow (EFDSS, 1965). I believe that there is a new edition of this out, but I haven't seen it.

"I've got a ferret sticking up my nose."

THE FURZE FIELD
"And if you'll come a-ferreting when ferreting's in season..."

THE KING OF BALLYHOOLEY
"I have a house behind yon hill two fine greyhounds and a ferret"

CHARACTER OF A MISTRESS
"Yet in her cunny burrow may two tumblers and a ferret play"
