Subject: sea lion woman (aka see lye woman) From: Date: 20 Jun 99 - 01:59 AM this song is sung at the beginning and end of 'the generals daughter'. i had to wait for the credits to get the title. the credits list it as 'sea lion woman'. the only place i have found a reference to this song so far is on a cd of songs from mississippi /alabama where they called it 'see lye (sea lion) woman'. the cd was for sale but they gave no lyrics or samples. this song intrigued me and i couldnt catch all the words. if anyone knows where i can get the lyrics and possibly the song on the web i would really appreciate hearing from you. please email the info to me at: rnforest@connect.net |
Subject: Lyr Add: SEA LION WOMAN (from C & K Shipp) From: Charlie Baum Date: 20 Jun 99 - 02:21 AM "Sea Lion Woman", sung by Christine and Katherine Shipp, was recorded for the Library of Congress by Herbert Halpert in Byhalia, Mississippi in May of 1939. It is available on the CD "A Treasury of Library of Congress Field Recordings" selected and annotated by Stephen Wade, Rounder CD 1500. The liner notes mention that the actual title of this playground song might be See [the] Lyin' Woman, C-Line Woman, or Sea Lion Woman. The words as near as I can figure them out:
Sea Lion Woman / Sea Lion

I didn't know anything about the origins of it until this thread - so thanks! I know I love Feist's version but will now have to go away and listen to some other versions -will be interesting to see how different they are. |
