Subject: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Rick Fielding Date: 22 Jun 99 - 01:37 AM I'm so glad some folks were able to tune in on the internet tonight (last night). Thank you again. It's made the show more fun over the last few weeks - even with the technical glitches that seem to plague "CIUT". The young band "Kitchen Music" with their jazz-rock-fusion, is a bit of a departure for the show, but they're picking up a good local following and deserved a bit of free publicity. There are so few outlets for folk or jazz artists (young or old) around here unless they are pretty mainstream. Lennie Gallant was passing through Toronto on tour from the Maritimes and was absolutely amazed that he could be heard in Australia. (thanks Alison) Stuart Cameron (son of John Allen Cameron (who premiered "Lord of The Dance" in Canada many years ago) is a fine young songwriter and guitarist for the amazing Ashley McIssac.
Joe Offer asked why Heather wasn't on air this show. Joe, it's the first in a long time that she hasn't been. Because of the number of people we had in the studio, Heather was busy doing mike set-ups, answering the phone and keeping guests supplied with ice tea! She'll be on air next week. |

From: alison Date: 22 Jun 99 - 04:09 AM Hi Rick, It was a great to be able to hear the show... usually at that time on a Tuesday morning (in australia) I'm asleep after a night shift...... but I saw Katlaughing's reminder and tuned in. I don't know who told you I was listening(thanks mystery person).. but believe me it gave me a huge thrill to be mentioned over the air from Canada. Thanks again slainte alison |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Jun 99 - 06:56 AM Oh, Rick, I thought you'd like to know that Peter, Paul and Mary have two albums with titles like yours: PP M& (LifeLines) (1995) and Lifelines Live (1996). They also have a video and a laser disc, all with the same title. I believe your Lifeline came out in 1995. You musta been first, eh? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: catspaw49 Date: 22 Jun 99 - 08:38 AM Sorry Rick, I'm not sure whether the problem kast nite was my end or the stations but I kept getting the same message. May have had something to do with my 16 year old and his "computer wizardry" which has now glommed up this thing to the point that I'm about to have to take it to a real wizard for repair!!! We got home just in time to tune in (Karen went to the hospital for 6 stitches--broken glass) and I gave up about 9:45. BTW---if you get A&E on the tube, it's a "Heart Throbs" week on "Biography" with Annette, Hayley Mills, etc. I remember having this discussion somewhere and quite a few 50ish 'Catters chimed in. Maybe I oughta' start a Dirty Old Men thread............... catspaw |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Date: 22 Jun 99 - 10:38 AM Rick! I was so disappointed. When I tuned in to your show I was told that I had to download RealPlayer software! By the time I found it and downloaded it, it was too late. It came zipped and I'm not sure if I can unzip it, or where I should put it so CIUT software can access it. I need to do more investigation. I should have it up by next week. I hope!! annap |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Legal Eagle Date: 22 Jun 99 - 04:29 PM I would be interested to know (thread creep setting in) how many people still remember that "Lord of the Dance " was a fairly contemporary hymn beofre Michael Flatley made a stage show.

Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Rick Fielding Date: 24 Jun 99 - 12:43 AM Thanks Joe. That was super-creep. I just wanted to let folks know that this Mon. Susan Latimer, a wonderful Canadian singer will be guesting on the show. She's the sister of frequent mudcatter Steve Latimer who will also be there (perhaps as a chaperone.) rick |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Steve Latimer Date: 24 Jun 99 - 11:27 AM Rick, I don't think a Chaperone will be necessary with Duckboots in the room. We're looking forward to it. |

Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Steve Latimer Date: 28 Jun 99 - 03:35 PM I hope that many of you will be able to tune in tonight. I am quite biased, but I think that you'll really enjoy Susan's music. |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Tony Burns Date: 28 Jun 99 - 04:26 PM Just tested the RealAudio connection and it's working. Go to http://www.ciut.utoronto.ca/ and select Listen Live. Also tested the Mudcat chat room and it's working! Maybe some of us can meet there during the show. |
Subject: RE: 'Acoustic Workshop' from Toronto, Mon. 9pm. From: Rick Fielding Date: 28 Jun 99 - 07:49 PM A last minute guest on the show tonight will be mudcatter Michael Miland. I read Michael's posting in the "rare earth" guitar pick-up thread, and was intrigued by his brand new "Tam Kearney" model Grit Laskin 12 string guitar. Tam, by the way is a Scottish-born folksinger who has made Toronto his home for many years, and although he's a wonderful singer and anecdotist, I didn't realise that he'd reached "Mount Rushmore" status. If I'm nice, perhaps Michael will let me play it. I was in the studio with Curly Boy Stubbs today working on the new album, and we burned the CD of Catspaw's Rag, so that'll be the theme song for Acoustic Workshop for the next while. Thanks. rick |
