I heard him say in a radio interview that all he wants now is a horse and shining armour to be a proper knight!!!!!

I absolutely adore Discworld and other Pratchett creations.

However, I don't agree with how the British honours system is managed. Cliquish, cheap, outdated, and alarmingly misrepresentative of what some of the recipients supposedly stand for, and negatively politically charged.

Wish Terry had added his name to the list of decliners
.

At last!
Someone whose genius has been recognised before he is in his dotage and unable to enjoy it.

Ankh Morpork will be celibrating tonight and Dibbler will sell hundreds of his famous rat on a sticks.

I knew I'd find a thread here at mudcat about this - though I have to admit the fine ladies of MMarioKKnits alerted me several hours before the start of this thread.

I love having connections around the world!

I have no objection to Terry Pratchett and greatly admire his recent show of courage. However I most admire those who reject this honour nonsense.

..and among the others I saw Courtney Pyne (jazz sax), John Martyn, Robert Plant and one Dick Miles ("banjo player, for services to music" -no sniggering-).

For one moment the only Terry I could think of was Leadfingers! Congrats to TP. well deserved. I bought Jon the Folklore of Discworld for Christmas... excellent book.

You mean another honour besides being the Dean and wryter-in-resydence of the Unseen Universyty of Hystoryans of Ankh-Morpok, Lancre and wyder Discworld?

He certainly deserves that.

Best wishes
Ernest

Just to confirm, I assume this relates to Terry Pratchett who receives a knighthood in the New Year's Honours List:

I can't wait to hear what he has to say about this much deserved (in my opinion anyway) honour!
