It is pleasing to note that Archie Green's seminal essay on hillbilly music is now available on line in its entirety.

Hillbilly Music: Source & Symbol.

Thanks, Stewie! Good reading, I am sure. I just now bookmarked it.

I recently treated myself to a couple of interesting books that I have barely cracked the covers, but I'll give you a report later in case you haven't read them, though come to think of of it, you probably have!

Patrick Huber's Linthead Stomp

Tony Russell's Country Music Originals, The Legends And The Lost

Looks fascinating, Stewie. And really in depth. I hope to have a chance to read it soon.

Thanks.

Called Archie and told him about this and he was quite pleased. I should also let people know that he has had health problems lately.
He is 90 after all. Long may he wave.

Mark,
Good talking to you yesterday.
Could you please send me Archie's phone info? I've not known how to reach him to thank him for the very nice mention for my tapes of Paul Durst in his new book. It was great to have those old interview tapes I did with P.D. noted positivly like that in The Big Red Song Book.

Stewie,
Thanks for linking to that. I had not known about it.

Art

I've just posted the link on the Steel Guitar Forum. There are people on there who will have known, or even are descended from, some of the names in the study.
It will be interested to get the inside view.
Cheers
Dave
