Hi...

We (Celtic Music radio) have just published our schedules for the next week - see http://www.celticmusicradio.net/schedule.html - which includes a feature on the Glasgow festival of songwriting and live broadcasts from Celtic Connections, both of which start next week.

During Celtic Connections, we'll be broadcasting 10 hours of live material every day from the festival. The typical weekday schedule will look something like:

11.00 - Mark Sheridan's Morning Magazine, live from the exhibition hall, with music, news, interviews, reviews and previews.

12.30 - Iain Anderson in Conversation - Iain, of BBC Scotland fame, hosts a "chat show" with some well known faces from the music, cultural and political world.

13.30 - Gordon Hotchkiss' "HotchPotch" - with festival guests, music, and live performances between 2.00 and 3.00. Entry free; all welcome!

5pm-7pm - The Danny Kyle Open Stage - 5 performers or bands playing each night, over 18 nights, competing for fame, fortune and a main-stage support gig next year.

8pm-10pm - "The Songs of Scotland" - live from the Universal club.

Full details of all of these shows, including guest lists for Iain Anderson and the Songs of Scotland, are on the celtic connections website.

Tune in and tell us if you like it!

Bruce.

Friday is Celtic Music Radio's first birthday - we went on-air on 16 January 2008.

To celebrate this, we're teaming up with those nice people at Celtic Connections to offer a fantastic competition prize. We are giving away 5 pairs of tickets for Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba with Jayme Stone & Mansa Sissoko at the Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs, on Friday 16 January.

http://www.celticconnections.com/whatson/event/79193

To win a pair of tickets, all you have to do is send an email to competitions@celticmusicradio.net with the answer to a really simple question. Closing date is 5pm on Wednesday.

So if you're likely to be in or around Glasgow this weekend, why not enter!

The question is being broadcast regularly on-air, and is also available on our website - http://www.celticmusicradio.net

Good luck!

Pity there's not more folk on it though.

Perhaps. The exact mix depends on a number of things, not least the presenter's preferences, and even the time of day! Unlike many radio stations, we don't run tight playlists, the presenters are basically free to choose their own material.

We encourage listeners to build up a dialogue with the presenters - if there's any particular artist or genre that seems to be underrepresented, tell them!

Looking back over the last couple of hours logs, we've been playing music by

Danu
Leahy
Rachel Hair
Oakstone Valley
David Ferrard
Sam Hird
Mike Silver
Altan
Dochas
John Morran
Ian Bruce
Iris DeMent
Foghorn Stringband
Adam Beattie

I'm afraid I don't know half of those names, and although I love her work; is Iris Dement folk?

Just rumour at the moment; hoping to have confirmation very soon. May have a live set by "Show of Hands" on tuesday afternoon, in advance of their performance that evening. More info when it arrives...

Bump - my understanding is that we'll have a live set by show of hands, at 2pm tomorrow, just after Iain Anderson in conversation with Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. 2pm, exhibition hall, glasgow royal concert hall. Broadcast on 1530kHz around glasgow and www.celticmusicradio.net

We've got live gigs, free, every weekday at 2. Some "big names", some up-and-coming....

Show of Hands were very good.

Wednesday 2pm:
TNT - The-New-Tradition - pipers, and previous Open Stage finalists

Adam Sutherland (Peatbog Faeries), Kevin O'Neill, Innes Watson - all of whom feature in the "Treacherous Orchestra", playing the ABC on Sat 31st.

Free entry, all welcome.
