Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Rapparee Date: 31 Jan 09 - 04:09 PM Ergo, those who do live in wintery climes aren't human? |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Amos Date: 31 Jan 09 - 04:14 PM Those aren't traffic jams, Art. LA has traffic jams. We just like to get together out on the Interstate and open the car windows and moon-roofs to enjoy the balmy, sun-drenched breezes and the ocean air wafting over Paradise. ;>) A |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Ebbie Date: 31 Jan 09 - 04:35 PM Amos, you are making me weep. :) I have spent time in various climes- and have rarely found a summer time down south that is palatable to me. Even San Diego. Yes, I realize that San Diegans consider their climate ideal- rarely smoggy, rarely rainy, rarely temperatures above 75F. Ha, I say. That ain't good enough for me. My daughter used to live in S.D. and I have visited them there. I have seen a day when the temp was 94 degrees - and my daughter thought nothing of requiring us all to "go for a nice walk". Ha, I say. Winter time, now that is different. But even then you don't have the crisp, seemingly never-used air and the sweet and cold clear water that we have up here. sigh I guess I'll just have to fall back on the knowledge that if we're lucky, we all end up where we need and want to be. Even in winter, where the weather in Juneau the last month has been springlike- meaning changeable in the extreme. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Joybell Date: 31 Jan 09 - 05:42 PM Spaw -- Do you know that could be me talking!! if I skip over the words like "snow", and replace the word "Winter" with "Summer". I'm feeling EXACTLY the same way about Summer. Joy |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: keberoxu Date: 09 Jan 17 - 01:47 PM Funny, there was much talk on this thread about Groundhog Day. But when The Day actually came, the Mudcat members ditched this thread completely. Guess they started a new thread. One reason Winter Stinks is the infectious disease factor. When I was at university, I always thought of certain periods during the semesters, especially the semester that started after the year-end holidays, as Infirmary Season. We have a flu/'novovirus' covering ground rapidly on this continent. Those things are always ugly and sometimes fatal. And with several more snow and ice bound months to go, all of us being cooped up indoors together and only some of us washing our hands as often as we ought to do, the sicknesses will get worse before they get better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: leeneia Date: 09 Jan 17 - 11:16 PM diseases? Read some articles about tropical diseases, and then you will bless cold and snow for killing off so many parasites and other pathogens. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Hrothgar Date: 10 Jan 17 - 06:23 AM 34 degrees Celsius here for the next few days - that's about 94 Fahrenheit. The warm day comes on Saturday, when 36 degrees is forecast. Don't even think about the sub-tropical humidity that comes with it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: JennieG Date: 10 Jan 17 - 03:42 PM Going to be warmer here, Roger......38 and 40 deg. At least, being inland, we don't have to factor in humidity. So while you folk Over There are freezing your little bums off, spare a thought for those of us who would like to be...... |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: keberoxu Date: 10 Jan 17 - 04:37 PM I particularly agree with the late lamented Spaw's post of 30 January 2009 about "those piles of black stuff in parking lots." I know exactly what he meant. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Stinks!!! From: Rapparee Date: 10 Jan 17 - 05:44 PM I'm going home tomorrow (I hope I am) to 20 inches of SNOW, RAIN, and more coming...temps in the minus ugly range. |
