Dear Mudcat Friends,

Susette and I are releasing a new CD, Across the Blue Ridge. It is a collection of songs that trace our southern Appalachian heritage from Honeyville, Va. in the Shenandoah Valley down to Alabama in the sunny South. Drawing the Carter Family song book and other early American country music's seminal figures, including the Stonemans, the Delmore Brothers and Jimmie Rodgers, we've chosen simple, and we hope, compelling songs. We recorded them live in a straightforward old time style with only acoustic guitar, autoharp, banjo and double bass. Just songs and a fiddle tune (on guitar and autoharp) this time, no 'radio' comedy this time out.

The CD release concert is Feb. 22 in Bethesda, MD. We'd love to see you there. Please PM me for details of the concert if I haven't reached you otherwise.

The CD will be available from our website www.theshivershow.com,or from me directly here on the Mudcat very soon and later on CD Baby.

Susette has really found her voice and her yodel on this one and I'm very proud of her. Our label is Patuxent Music, and the CD was produced by Tom Mindte, and it's a great fit.

Thanks for letting me share this,
chance

So, when are you going to do Wake Up Little Susette?

You know that the Everly brothers' harmony was a direct descendant of the Delmore Bros and the Blue Sky boys, Charlie and Ira Louvin, et al.

We ought to do wake up little Susette! I'll make a note.
Best to Ruth.

Beautiful. Simple. Authentic. Well-produced. I love it Chance and Susette!

(See, Bobert... There are reasons to ccasionally check out the stuff above "the line"...)

Hey, Chance, ol buddy...

A big ol' hillbilly congrates to ya'... That Honeyville ain't the little church community here in Page County, is it??? There ain't much there but a church and an old packing house...

Ahhhh, sorry but we ain't gonna be able to make it "down" (valley talk) to the city fir yer kick-off concert 'cause the P-Vine has atken a job managing a plant center and all our weekends are eat up with going thru endless plant catalouges and getting the orders in...

BTW, if ya' all would like to come down sometime this season I can get you an hour stage time at the Page County Farmers Market... Don't pay anything but you can sell yer CD's... And it's fun... And afterwards ya'll can come out to the farm and milk a cow 'er somethin'...

(You ain't got no cow, Bobert...)

Well, okay... I don't...

Nevermind the cow milking thing...

Bobert

Yes, yes, that is page county for sure Mr. Bobert. If you take the Honeyville road out of Stanley you'll go right past it, don't blink, or you'll be in Alma and you'll have missed it.

Well, the Page County Farmer's Market sounds like fun. I'd like to see your farm and Miss Peavine, most especially.

We'll just have come 'up the country' here pretty soon,
regards,
chance

It was a dynamite concert.   The first half Chance and Suzette were channeling A. P. and Sara--except that Chance sang a lot more than A. P. used to. Though he was the MC and raconteur, a la A.P. You could visualize that's the way it used to be--even the venue fit-- a little church off the beaten track--and great acoustics.

The second half they had some able assistance in a really solid sound from Mark, an excellent dobro player and Lynn, a great bluegrass singer, throwing in some sweet harmonies-- as well as guitarist. And Christine was a good solid bass fiddler providing the foundation all the way through the concert.

They even gave the audience a chance to sing at the end of the concert--which as Jan says, was rather lovely.

Jan also had a hard time restraining herself from dancing.

On top of that the group dressed the part--30's head to toe.

If they come to your area, by all means drop everything else and go see them.
