"The Inter-Varsity Folk Dance Festival (or IVFDF for short) is the country's longest continually running folk festival, aimed squarely at students (although anyone who feels they can keep up is welcome) and run by a different university each year. IVFDF is a non-stop weekend based (fairly broadly) around traditional forms of music and dance"

IVFDF 2009: Exeter
Friday 27th February - Sunday 1st March 2009

I went to last year's festival in Sheffield. The most fun you can have without taking your clothes off. At least I didn't.

Great weekend.

Isn't it nearly the same dance line up as last Exeter IVFDF? It's always felt very 'safe'.
I agree Dave, Sheffield was excellent. Always seems to have an extra buzz about it compared to anywhere else. Where is it next year?

Brilliant !! Went to the last Exeter one a few years back, and played in the Ceilidh Band for the Sunday dance in that wonderful big auditorium.Slept in the car-park in back of a VW Transporter---it was about minus 7 degrees, and Gordon Potts had a safari land-rover with a tent on the roof !! I will certainly go again IF I can persuade WFD so soon after the Sidmouth winter "reunion" !!Anyone who hasn't been but might consider it---do NOT miss "IVDIF" at Exeter,it is an amazing experience !!

IVFDF often has really good dance bands. Not necessarily fashionable bands - or bands that impress those propping up the bar. Just bands that provide a really good dancing experience.

This is a good policy as a lot of their audience are too young to know who they "should" enjoy. All that's needed is cracking dance bands and they're hooked.

Also attracts older people who recognise the names of bands that ARE good.
