Have seen this Melodeon on the Music Room website and wondered if anyone had any views?

Looks like it could be good. I haven't played it but I do have an Oakwood and it's great. All depends on whether it has that Oakwood punch. I'd have preferred a stepped keyboard, but that's just my preference. Is it £599 or £899? There seems to be two different prices.

I think it's just the prototype thats £599. The actual line model is £899.

Last year at Ely Folk Festival I saw and tried a new Dino Baffetti melodeon that The Music Room were offering for sale. It's the only box I've played that felt and sounded like my Oakwood. A few months later I read that Oakwood had been working on a design for Dino Baffetti (or something like that - both names were involved somehow) and I think that's what I had seen because it was so uncannily Oakwood like - much brighter tone than your standard black and white Dino which is still a very nice and loud box.

I wonder if this prototype is connected in any way. It's a very tempting price. If it's a two-voice instrument it's a good price even at £899 for the banded Sandpiper - a lot less that I paid for my Oakwood.

Ah! found it now: The Dino Baffetti/Oakwood Binci - no relation, but a very nice box, I can assure you.

I still think the new Oakwood will be a good'un - and I should think the prototype would make an ideal morris box - cheap and loud.

I bought a prototype sandpiper in November 2008 and it is superb to play and phenomenal value. great action and really good sound. A total pleasure and handles very fast irish reels brilliantly. Goes down very well in Doolin.

What's the keyboard layout on the prototype?
Is it 4th button start?
Accidentals?
