Lyr/Tune Req: Bound to Fly (Len Chandler)

This song was done on Oscar Brand's TV Show LETS SING OUT circa '65 to'69 on Canada's CTV network. The performer was a black bearded male in his thirty's then, would now be in his sixties. It was done guitar vocal, with the title repeated ...I'm bound to fly-y-y-y in the refrain. Does the name Aanderson help? The song is on videom tape in Canada's National Archives in Ottawa but no way would there be an index to find the particular show.

It was a Len Chandler song, sung by the trio 3's a crowd. I'll try and find the lyrics for you (but I hope someone else gets in here who knows how to provide tunes) I could sing it to you over the phone.

Is Len Chandler still around? He shared the stage with Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger in the sixties. He wrote a song called "I'm Bound to Fly" He is 64 now but may still be performing. Howdy there. My friend Joanne Crabtree is a great Len Chandler fan, and to the best of my knowledge, still corresponds with him out there on the west coast. I know I have that Sing-Out with "Bound to Fly" and I'll hunt for it. Could take a while though, so I hope some other cat will come along to help. Have you tried the DT?

When I left the LA area 6 years ago, Len was kicking around still performing .He was also a major player in the LA based Songwriters organization.I last saw him at Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest where he was a performer and did a set at the songwriter's stage. A top notch writer and performer.Six years ago isn't much help.

I remember Len Chandler from the early sixties, when I first got into folk music. He had some great songs. My guitar teacher, at the "Y" was a friend of his and got him to come and play at our "coffee House" a few times. I play a song of his (Via Dave Van Ronk) called, "Green Green Rocky Road". He had another song I remember vaguely, about Jom Crow, "I'm building a coffin for old Jim Crow...". Does anybody remember it?

It's good to know he is still around.

Len Chandler is listed as the "composer" of a comedy album by Credibility Gap titled "Album Of Political Pornography."
