Sadly the folk day at the arms has been called off due to a clash of dates locally, so the arms is to host another day of dance at this folk and morris hungry venue, for those that missed the last one, it was very succesfull in itself, in fact it emptied two other pubs in the area, the locals keep asking for another so here it is, its st georges weekend on the saturday, with loadsa taties roast beef yorky puds and of course gravity ales, this pub is the home of the gongscourers and it is probably the most welcoming pub in kent for folk and morris. Every time we are in the pub regulars ask when the next bash will be, its not the biggest pub in the world but the welcome from landlady and regulars has to be seen. So if you fancy it lets do it . Invites are out to all and sundry, easy bus rail and road links, if you dont want to dance but want to sing a round do it , there is even a room upstairs free for our use,

Well me dear... I won't be going to anything on weekend before Sweeps, so won't be at either Arms. Will probably be at the Nags Head in Stoke on the 21st though.

sadly there was so little support for the day i had to hang my head, the pub staff had worked so hard for the day all the staff wages yes even the publicans, all the beer profits went to demelza house as usual, the staff even wore costume for the day and the effort was obvious, the gongscourers and motley morris provided a great dance session many thanks to motley for coming, the sing a round though muted went ahead anyway, it was a great day despite the no shows, shame as these days at the arms alway support demelza house, not one penny goes into the pockets of the publicans, the huge amounts of free food was purchased out of their own pockets, and given to those at the pub dancers singers customers come one come all , everyone was fed. once i get the total raised from beer sales and the raffle i will post it.

Oh so sorry Romany - I would have loved to be there, but TheSilentOne has Ofsted Inspection all next week so he is working (prepping lessons and marking papers) this weekend.

Here's a hug and little aside. Starting to learn a bit of harmony on Marks in the Grass, though it still chokes me up.

To be fair, although BG and sing were on form at the KA, the attendance of the paying public was not massive either. Is it the recession? There are more North Kent sides than just BG, the Gongs, and Motley (for example Wantsum, Dead Horse, and Hartley and surely there is a side based at Istead Rie, and where were Frog Island based, wasn't it on the Darenth somewhere) - and also surely there are other Sarf Lunnon sides although I know them less well.

It's a shame that BG had been promised to the KA so long in advance.

It might just have been the gorgeous weather. Maybe they were all at B&Q and Wyvales?

Not a good time for me Cuz. I must watch every penny at the moment - no job - no salary - no can do. And my other half was dancing at the Maidstone Medieval Fayre (an excuse for St. George). Such a shame that it wasn't supported, as it's a bl**dy good cause.
