I can find nothing, Frank. If your question is not answered by the better informed here--most everyone imo, perhaps an e-mail to the Sligo municipal authorities or library would yield results for you.

Frank

Tell us more? Where did you hear it, what do you know about it? Old or modern? Sure of the title? I'll probably be in ITMA on Thursday and can have a look.

Regards

Martin asks good questions. The more info you can give the more success people will have 'jogging their memories'.

Frank

Incidentally: if you put "Sligo" into the search box, you'll get links to a number of threads with Sligo songs, which may be worth trawling if you haven't checked them already.

Regards

This is the first verse of 'The Lakes of Sligo.' It's all that I can think of.

Fair Sligo thee I now must leave,
To part thy beauty I do grieve,
But not forever, I believe,
I'll call again to Sligo.
Chorus:
To Holy Well I bid adieu,
To Hazelwood and and Cairns too,
And Toberknock that splendid view,
Which adorns the lakes of Sligo.

Subject: Lyr Add: LAKES OF SLIGO

Thanks to all for the help. Here is the lyrics of Lakes Of Sligo
LAKES OF SLIGO

Fair Sligo thee I now must leave,
To part thy beauty I do grieve,
But not forever, I believe,
I'll call again to Sligo.

CHORUS:
To Holy Well I bid adieu,
To Hazelwood and Cairns too,
And Tobernalt that splendid view,
Which adorns the lakes of Sligo.

And fair Lough Gill with its isle so grand,
Where we often wandered hand in hand,
On a summer's evening by the strand,
Along the lakes of Sligo.

CHORUS

And on that lake we often spent,
Many an hour and quite content,
And from our boat sweet music went,
Around the lakes of Sligo.
CHORUS

And then I think of Knocknarea,
With its bonny cliffs hanging o'er the sea,
It still reminds me of the day,
I left my home in Sligo.
CHORUS

There's an old thread that contains two versions of THE LAKES OF SLIGO: Lyr Req: The Lakes of Sligo

I had a look in the Irish Traditional Music Archive for "I'll return again to Sligo". Nearest I could find was a song called "I'm going back to Sligo", recorded by a guy called Kevin Conlon on a CD called "Irish Fast Ballads". So I fished it out of the cabinet and bunged it into the Mac's CD drive. Off went iTunes to retrieve the track listing on the Web. It neatly listed the tracks, including the required one - but gave the artist's name as Kevin Colon! I kid you not!

Anyway, it's a kinda country take on the Irish emigrant experience in London - probably not what Frank was looking for.

Department of tangential information: the tune 'Lakes of Sligo' also turns up as a schottische under the names of 'Over The Hills To Glory' (English) and 'Lass o' Gowrie' (Scottish).

I've done a three-part arrangment of Lakes of Sligo for the Spare Parts Concertina Band; if anyone would like it in .pdf form, let me know.

I have recorded the Lakes of Sligo in 1989 and that song is featured on the CD. Hope that helps Martin.
