Can anyone recommend some good online shops to buy folk CDs, new and secondhand? I usually use Amazon for CDs but can't get some of the folk titles I want.

Ta. Jane

Try www.footstompin.com - it's based in Scotland, but the service is great. Order a CD today, and it's usually with you next day. I imagine it would take longer for overseas delivery. :)

For maritime-themed music, sea shanties etc., try the Chantey Cabin.

They can usually find anything even vaguely sea-related

If there's a particular title you're looking for, see if the artist has a website & sells from it.

The clearinghouse gemm.com lists new and used CDs and other media from a lot of different sellers.

I like Musikfolk Ltd., which is based in Cornwall but posts anywhere. Ian & Stephanie are very friendly and helpful if you need to get in touch with them to ask anything.

Can't get that link to work, Fortunato - all it tells me is:

This site looks interesting with a good selection of stuff but beware the online sales as it appears to be unsecure.

I can't think of a single UK label that doesn't have its own on-line store.

If an artist is releasing a recording privately then you will have to go direct.

Amazon is good for second hand and anything distributed by Proper will be available there too.
