Bert, I like the colour coding....here is a link to a new thread which Mike started about what is coming up on his Thursday morning radio program. There is also a link to the website in that thread.

Here is a link to the most recent thread with info on Rick Fielding's radio show, etc.

I'll post more of them as I get time. I think it might be a good idea if the radio listings were in a separate thread or a Quick Link, maybe with just a calendar page of them for each month?

Thanks, Bert, it looks great!

Subject: The Sun Sessions
From: GUEST,Roger of Beverley
Date: 24 May 01 - 08:38 AM

Every Sunday between 4 and 7pm at the Sun Inn, Beverley we have an informal session that has been hosted up to now by Keith Gay. From this Sunday, 27th May 2001, I will be taking alternate weeks with Keith.

Those who have heard me play will know that any session run by me will run from trad songs and tunes to current chart material taking in plenty of rock n roll, country and blues along the way.

It would be nice if there could be a good turn out for my first session this Sunday but I would glad to see you any week that you can come along.

Roger(guitar, mandolin, harmonica, vocals)

For those of you who like Cowboy music, not country western but cowboy music, Michael Martin Murphey as open the Singing Cowboy Ranch in Buena Vista Colorado. He performs there most weekends and you can get both music and a western ranch experience with chuck wagon dinners and trail rides. What is really great is that the concerts are a real personal affair because of the small size of the audiences at the ranch. I'm not sure if the web page is up yet but if you are out that way give it a listen.

If you are visiting London UK, there's only one place to go for real traditional English folk music - It's the Cricketers pub @ 22, King William Walk in Greenwich, London SE10. It's free to get in and it's on every Tuesday night at 9.00pm throughout the year. Totally informal - we just sit round the table and play - often up to 20 people with loads of fiddles. The pub sells good traditional English ale and we're very friendly to visitors! Come and join us if you're over here - you won't regret it.

Pete

UK only...
Calling everyone in the UK who's got something to publicise or wants to know what's on:

If you haven't been there yet, go to http://www.gig-guide.org, take the trouble to figure out how the system works and put your gigs, or venue into the system. And/or look to see what's on soon in your area.

And if you have any experience of web-based databases, try and think of some suggestions to make it easier to use... :-)

BTW, a list of the next fortnights gigs from that system is posted to uk.music.folk every week.

Anahata

Meanwhile, down under in Queensland, Orstrilia, mostly Celtic/Anglo Folk by and for local musoes and passing visitors in the South-east corner of the state. 70k north of Brisbane at the Celtic Tearooms, Mountain View Rd, Maleny. Sessions round the table every Sunday from 2.30pm for a (usually) appreciative late lunch and afternoon audience. Gold coin entry split up among the performers. Also fairly regular Saturday evening specialist performances by local musoes. Details on www.skybusiness.com/celtictearoom/ If you're passing, don't - they do a terrific light lunch or devonshire tea and it's probably the best folk type centre in the district outside the city centre.

Every Sunday night in Charlottesville, Va. at Escafe (East End of the Downtown Mall), The Hogwaller Ramblers play. It may be bluegrass, or gospel, or blues, or the grand pastiche that all the forms form. 10pm to 1am or so. Food and drink are great, lotsa pretty people too smart for their own good.

A guy by the name of Tom Saputo runs a great open mic night every Thursday and Friday night at Squire Rockwell's, Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) and Prosperity, Annandale, VA. He attracts some extremely good local vocal talent and some mighty fine instrumentalists regularly show up for a session. Blues, folk, rock 'n roll, doowop, country, and the occasional swing/big band sound. Tom is exceptional on the keyboards. Robert Sullivan (when he graces us with his presence) is phenomenal on lead guitar, and a really smooth horn player (sax) called Rick stops by once in awhile. Tom usually showcases a particular singer from 9 - 10 on Thursdays, but the rest of the time, the mic's open. Free pizza on Friday nights. Good people, good music, and good fun.

There is a new music poetry forum in Frederick, Maryland called WHAP! (a Weekly Happening with Audience Participation) It is an open mike show scheduled in advance by local artist Shortbread (Jim Wagner). It features 15-20 minute sets by usually 6-8 performers per evening. All performers doing a complete set receive a share of audience tips, and get feedback from the audience (the 'audience particiapation' part of it) via comment cards around the venues. WHAP! happens at 3 venues on different evenings in Frederick, Maryland; Sunday evenings 7-9 at the Friends Meeting House (723 N. Market Street), Monday evenings 6:30-8:30 at Jennifer's Restaurant (207 W. Patrick Street), Thursday evenings 7-9 at the Mudd Puddle (124 S. Carroll Street.) Contact Shortbread at 301-682-4836 or rengawpj@hotmail.com if you are interested in performing or attending. Thanks,

Jim (Shortbread)

Sorry about the above, hit the enter key by mistake! Stupid boy!
However, Kiveton Park Folk Club (Nr. Sheffield) is open EVERY Tuesday night without fail. Eight guests a year with singers nights between. We're mainly trad but you'll not get chucked out if you do a bit of contemporary stuff, the regulars are very accommodating and very encouraging. New folks welcome anytime, either to sing, play, or just listen. ALL perormers get a chance to do their bit. Theres a cheap bar, free tea and coffee for the non-imbibers, free grub in the beer break and a lovely atmosphere. A quid in the ashtray on singers nights and the entrance fee has never been over a fiver for guest nights. Past and future guests include the likes of Pete Coe, Brian Peters, Louis Killen, John Kirkpatrick, The H.L Ranters, Keith Kendrick, Napper/Bliss and Robin Laing. Been running continuously for 36 years, so we must be doing summat right! Website at www.kivetonfolk.fsnet.co.uk, have a look!

Regards
Andy
