As usual a bit of a one off.

Thanks to Ged, Phil, Alan, Phil, Sandra, Gordon, Claudine, Jeanette, Norman, Steve, Ken, Mike and Martin and Peggy who came and sang for the first time.

A special thanks to whoever locked the mountain bike to the seating. It remained a complete mystery to the staff and an excellent but of jokes including the repeated and badly played "A Bicycle made for two".

And a further special thanks to the three young women practicing 'Manc open throat wailing' in the bar. I hope they continue this practise perhaps in Liverpool

Weird experience Thursday morning - he was in my paper shop! He didn't recognise me as I kept my head down!

The Beech seems to be developing into one of those sessions where really good singing is starting to happen a lot. I have this theory (borne out by previous experience) that if a few good singers get together a very positive thing starts to happen and they encourage each other to improve and some become very good or even outstanding.

I think that we should all give a vote of thanks to Les for starting this (and he does really, quite often, make a little bit more sense than the drunk did last night). What was he on about? The drunk I mean, not Les! I think that it was something to do with the War - if he appears again don't mention the War!

Another grand night of songs, tunes, rain and that drunken bloke who made less sense than I do - we always get one don't we.

The first Wednesday in December (2) will be our second birthday so I erge everyone who ever came or intended to come to put Dec 2 in their diary and also November 18 for a chance to try out a few songs. Not forgetting Beginners Tunes on Tuesday 24th November.

That was one fine night. I remember thinking that Alan's "Bold Riley" was the kind of thing I go to the Beech for, and mentally correcting myself immediately - actually it was the kind of thing I get out of bed for. Stellar performances too from Dave and Sue and Anne and John and, and...

Hasta la two weeks' time, and I expect to see everyone present (or I shall want a note from your responsible adults). And maybe one day the beer will match the singing!

Well, thanks to Ged, Phil, Sandra, Ken, Alan, John, Ann, Mike, Dave and Martin. Martin sang for the first time in about 3 years an played some excellent tunes on the English concertina.

Lots of good songs many about the Sea and plenty of dead people. I apologise for bringing double glazing into Roll the Old Chariot Along but you spend a lot of time on your own in retirement and it did seem funny at the time.

Book now for the 2nd birthday bash in December

Oh, and tunes next Wednesday because lots of us are going to the MacColl memorial at Salford next Tuesday

It was 'The green valley'. We couldn't find the words or chords or anything on the interweb, but if you can then you might send us the words as we're not sure we have them all right.

Ms Armstrong does it unaccompanied and doesn't seem to stick rigidly to any particular time signature (or not one we can understand anyway), so when we came up with the chords we made up something that seemed to fit. It's 6 beat bars (a 4 and a 2) with an extra 2 beats stuck on the end of each verse. Ahem. Cheers, Phil.
