If you mean "Blind Willie Dunn," that was a recording alias used by guitarist Eddie Lang on many pre-war blues recordings. I think that if you Google "Lonnie Johnson & Eddie Lang" without the qiotation marks, you should come up with some info on Lang's occasional use of the Willie Dunn alias.

From Wiki.

Willie Dunn is a Canadian filmmaker, folk musician, playwright and politician. Born in Quebec, he is of mixed Mi'kmaq and Scottish background. Dunn often highlights aboriginal issues in his work.

Dunn is a singer and acoustic guitarist. He wrote a song entitled "The Ballad of Crowfoot" and directed a ten-minute film of the same name in 1968 (Montreal Gazette, 21 October 1990). Both the song and video are about inhumane and unjust colonial treatment of aboriginal Canadians, as well as their taking charge of their destiny and becoming politically active (Ottawa Citizen, 30 July 1992).

He has released three full-length albums: Willie Dunn (1971) and The Pacific (1980). His 1999 CD, Metallic, reprises material from both releases.[1] Dunn also composed the song, "Son of the Sun", which Kashtin recorded on their second album (Windsor Star, 20 July 1992). In 2004 Willie Dunn released the album Son of the sun with sixteen songs (including three live versions) (data from German album by Trikont). His films include The Eagle Project, The Voice of the Land and Self-Government, [2] and his music was used for the film Okanada, about the 1990 standoff in Oka, Quebec between police and native protesters.

A longtime member of the New Democratic Party, Dunn defeated Mohamed Bassuny to win the party's federal nomination for Ottawa—Vanier in the 1993 federal election. He received 3,155 votes (6.50%), finishing fourth against Liberal incumbent Jean-Robert Gauthier. He turned 52 years old during the election campaign (Ottawa Citizen, 7 October 1993).

He participated in the Culturally Diverse First Peoples Arts Showcase tour in 1998 (Montreal Gazette, 14 November 1998), and the Nations in a Circle spotlight of 2002 (Halifax Daily News, 25 July 2002). He was inducted into the Aboriginal Walk of Honour in 2005 (Edmonton Journal, 25 June 2005).

He is also a good friend of Ron B's and my humble self. Crazy bugger--and you can tell him I said that.

I haven't heard much about (Canadian) Willie Dunn in a while - is he performing much? I always remember really loving his music when I saw him at festivals...

Willie Dunn - Main Site

"In the natural world, mothers love their young. In like manner can we not assume that the earth itself loves the life she has bestowed?

To please our mother the earth should we not assume that life is sacred?

To celebrate our mother's love is to celebrate life itself.

The celebration of life is love." - Willie Dunn

I guess you could say I lied. I know Willie Dunn. In fact I have him booked for our festival this summer. The post by Peace pretty well sums him up. Yet he is not that well known. Here is hoping that a few more folks will check him out. He is now in Europe (Germany I think) touring.

' I used to roam with Willie way out on the plains
One of our ponies was stone blind, the other was just lame
We weren't hard pressed to get out of Dodge or hell bent to meet the train
Always had enough to get us by, and a song to rattle the chain
When we called the scoundrels down, singing 'How sweet the sound'
We gave away more than we found,
When those medicine days came around"

Sorry, in error, I posted that before I'd finished.

Willie Dunn - 'Singer, songwriter, musician, playwright, artist, director, award-winning filmmaker, and First Nations ambassador for Canada.' (taken from Willie's main site, in the post above.)

"To many Canadian First Nations, the name "Willie Dunn" is synonymous with contemporary ballads depicting the life and death struggle of the Chiefs of various tribes who led their people through difficult times in the eighteen hundreds.

In the early seventies, Dunn donated proceeds of his second album entitled "Willie Dunn" to the White Roots of Peace in order for them to further their efforts in publishing a journal of Amerindian life, the Akwesasne Notes.

Also during the seventies, he worked with the National Film Board of Canada and directed and co-directed a few films to note, The Ballad of Crowfoot and The Other Side of the Ledger. These two films won nine international awards including three gold medals."
- taken from
Here

From Willie's film of the same name:
The Ballad of Crowfoot - on Youtube

A grim and shaming story, but also an incredibly informative film, and one which I hope incenses people:
The Other Side of the Ledger - 42 minute video from Willie's film

"A traditional way of life, with traditional problems, hunger and disease...a life of hard work and no luxuries..."

"To many of us the white man's world seems an absurd, frightening and impersonal place where people lose their humanity and nature is destroyed in the name of economic progress....."

"The Indian is an anachronism, a social misfit. If we will not conform, we must suffer the consequences, and the consequences are appalling. Indians are the lowest income earning group in Canada. Three quarters of the Indian families earn less than $2,000 per year. One third of the Indians are totally dependant on Welfare. The infant mortality rate is more than twice the national average. Life expectancy, 36 year, is one of the lowest in the world..." (all three quotes above taken from 'The Other Side of the Ledger')

A song that I can relate to so well:
Hear and read Willie's song 'School Days'

Willie is a man who is being listened to by many, but who needs to be heard by many more, not just people in Canada, but around the world.

I believe the First Nations People will be the ones to bring us all to our senses, to lead the way back, to show us the way. They love Mother Earth whilst so many of us seem hellbent on destroying Her. They have always loved Her, respected Her, known that they are simply a part of Her, that none of us own Her.

WHO is Willie Dunn?
Willie Dunn is a man of Great Wisdom and one to whom we should all be listening.

Oh Jeri, now you've got me all embarrassed. But thanks for the thought, it's much appreciated.

And Beer, I will just say, it's been nice reading your thoughts in some of the threads recently - I don't believe we've met in person before, but it's a pleasure to meet online. It sounds like you have a really great festival going - I'd love to hear more about it sometime.

There is a blues group from the Detroit area called "Jo Serrapere and the Willie Dunns". Never could quite figure out the name .... probably should have asked them.. eh. They will be playing at Farmfest this August so I'll try and remember to ask them about their bands name.

First Eve I want to invite you on board. I see that you are a relatively new to Mudcat and hope your stay is a long one. It is amazing the friend you will make.

No we haven't met but I'm sure this will happen down the road. As far as hearing more about our festival you can get the latest on this thread: Apple Hollow Music Fest Quebec Canada '09. In fact I'll refresh it for you.

Thanks for the welcome, Beer.

I actually go a little ways back with Mudcat, but I disappeared for a while. Singing at the Rick Fielding memorial concert a few weeks ago got me back on here, and I'm glad to be hanging around again. I have always found the conversations and the people wonderful.

I'll check out that other thread.

I was introduced to Willie Dunn at the age of 13 while living in Montreal. He was a friend of my deceased brother Alex Johnson.
I sure would like to be able to contact Willie by email of phone.
