Lyr. Add: CRADLE SONG
Richard Gall, 1776-1801

1
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
O saftly close thy blinkin' ee!
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
For thou art doubly dear to me.
Thy daddie now is far awa,
A sailor laddie o'er the sea,
But hope aye hecht his safe return
To you my bonnie lamb, an' me.
2
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
O saftly close thy blinkin' ee!
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
For thou art doubly dear to me.
Thy face is simple, sweet an' mild,
Like ony summer e'ening fa';
Thy sparkling e'e is bonnie black;
Thy neck is like the mountain snaw.
3
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
O saftly close thy blinkin' ee!
Baloo, baloo, my wee wee thing,
For thou art doubly dear to me.
O but thy daddie's absence lang,
Would break my dowie heart in twa,
Wert thou no left, a dautit pledge,
To steal the eerie hours awa.

Neither book has a tune.
It has been given a melody in "Essential Repertoire for the Young Choir containing 20 Songs; Essential Elements Choir; Treble/Student."

Level One. Pub. Hal Leonard, 1995, 1998. A teacher's edition also available. Many used copies available, also a new edition with CD.
Not seen, but looks like a popular book.

Tune is also given in McCaskey's Favorite Songs and Hymns for School and Home (1899, p. 362), as "Scotch Cradle-Song."
