Hi all,

I've recently had a yen to hear "Old Peculiar," aka "A Pint of Old Peculiar." It's not in the DT. Could someone post the words, please? I don't know who wrote it, so I don't know where else to look.

Thanks,

Sharyn

Sharyn - if you type the word Peculiar in the Filter box and set the Age drop-down to All and press the button, you'll find the thread Lyr Req: Old Peculiar / Old Peculier with the lyrics of Keith Marsden's song.

First of all, note that it's "Peculier" not "Peculiar" -- I think the thread is from 1999, but I haven't had a chance to look it up or see what it's title is.

The beer is indeed Old Peculier, but I chose the first word in the thread title that finds it: Peculiar!

You will find them posted by Graham Pirt in THIS THREAD.

Welcome to the Mudcat! It's a good idea to use the Search box up above before you start a new thread, as there is likely to be one already with the info you seek; not always, but usually. Hope this helps and have fun!

Holdstock and Mcleod do the best version of this!

I am quite sure that open mike isn't implying that the version by Holdstock and MacLeod is superior to all other versions, she is merely employing the fairly common American usage of "best" to mean "extremely good".

It's Old Peculier, not Old Peculiar, anyway.

Whilst on songs about alcoholic drink, Chris Wolferstan wrote a lovely one about Merrydown Wine.

He's guesting at Brighton Cellarfolk on June 16 (tuesday) - that's Downstairs at the Roung Georges pub, Sutherland Road, Kemptown, Brighton.

If I see him shortly I'll ask him if he can definitely include it.

"Old Pec" is a pretty good beer. Dick Holdstock does a good job of singing the song, although he spells it "Old Peculiar" on the Winter in the Wood CD that he did with Allan MacLeod.
