Hi all,

I'm a DJ now on WPSU radio, the Public Radio Affiliate here in Central Pennsylvania. I'm hosting the Folk Show tonight from 8 to 10 pm EST. You can tune in live by clicking here or by going to http://wpsu.org/radio and clicking on listen now.

I've got a couple mudcatters in the playlist tonight, and many more planned in the future.

Wish me luck,

Max

Mucho luck. But you don't need luck. You'll do a great job!

I'll be tuning in at the magic hour.

I'm hearing it now.... my PC gave me a choice of what to use, and I chose "Nexus Radio", though I have several other programs that ought to play it.

Coming in loud & clear.

Thanks Max!

And in Chat, which I never frequent, oldtimers were kind enough to tell me a little about the days of Mudcat Radio. Helped me realize how the community of Mudcat was built. It is amazing how that original glue, brought about by people actually seeing and talking to one another over the internet, has continued to keep this place a community, even if not the community it apparently was before my time.

"Windows media did not recognize the file type."

It can be very useful to always have ready NON-Microsoft options for such things.

I got there late but enjoyed the last half hour and also the Chat. With Kendall and Jeri it immediately brought back the memories of Mudcat Radio. Janie came along and I think she could see it had potential to be fun too.

If you weren't around for the days of Mudcat Radio, I can only tell you it was a special time. With Max and Bert in the studio along with a few elves and assorted Mudcatters in town and calling in by phone, the evening show was just that......it took some undetermined length of time in the evening! Nothing was set in stone. When Max wore out or had to go...it ended. When Allan and Bill Sables came after their loop of Mudcat trip, I think that show ran damn near forever.

Aside from the music and calls, for many us what became the most fun part was the Chat. I suppose there were maybe 20 or 25 who were always there and another bunch of semi-regulars who would join in the Chat and tell stories, ask questions, make jokes, and generally just enjoy the living hell out of each other for a couple of hours. Other 'Catters would just use a thread as their chat because that's how a Mudcat thread kinda' works anyway.

I came here in '98 and I'm not sure if it was ever more fun or the comradeship greater than it was during that time. Certainly the 'Cat is still a wonderful place where the feeling of community and friendship is still pretty strong, but those days were just a little "extra."

Max's show last night was of course a lot more professional and well done on his part. I think we all enjoyed it and were pretty free with suggestions or criticism but the feeling of Mudcat Radio came back for awhile.......and I hope it does again.

Thanks all, yeah, I was having flashbacks...

My schedule for the rest of the season is:

6/20/2009    3:00 PM
7/4/2009    3:00 PM
7/25/2009    1:00 PM
8/8/2009    1:00 PM
8/22/2009    1:00 PM
9/6/2009    11:00 AM
9/19/2009    3:00 PM
10/10/2009    1:00 PM
10/10/2009    3:00 PM
10/31/2009    8:00 PM
11/21/2009    1:00 PM

They'll be a couple of unscheduled shows in there as well, and it's not in stone, but I'll keep you all as informed as possible.

Yes, I take requests and have every intention of playing as much mudcatter music as I can get away with. So send me your CD's and mp3s. Just like old times, but now LOTS of people are listening.

Max, do you have any of Art Thieme's CDs? He has posted links to his music here at Mudcat if you don't. A little vintage Art Thieme is filled with his songs. Play something of his, please!

I should let Max answer but.........Art has always been a big part of Mudcat and I think Max did a show that kinda' focused on Art. Also on Rick Fielding, Kendall, and others........ and his first call back then was to Sandy and Caroline Paton who were pretty active back in the day..........

Looking at the schedule I find that the next show is the day of my nephew's wedding so I'll be missing that one but I am looking forward to many good times.

Well, darn, didn't see this thread until tonight so I missed it. Clicking on Max's "here" blue clicky, Firefox told me that .pls is a Winamp playlist file and, sure enough, Winamp opened and started playing WPSU for me. I clicked again, told Firefox to save the file and now I have a "listen.pls" file right on my desktop that I can click to open WPSU.

I'll try to listen to the future broadcasts, but for sure I'll be scheduling them to record in Total Recorder just in case.
