600 years ago the North Bar in Beverley's town walls was constructed at a cost of £96. It is now the only one of the bars remaining and there is a period of celebrations in the town that culminates in a full day of events on July 12th.

Mudcatters will be interested to hear that the musical element of the celebrations include our own Saggy Bottom Boys as well as an Early English Dance workshop, Beverley Brass Band, Green Ginger Morris. Longcroft Gospel Choir, Beverley Garland Dancers and Andrew Garland's Mandolin Recital. For a full programme go to the Beverley Renaissance Partnership website at www.beverlyrenaissance.co.uk

enjoy

A bar is a gate in a medieval town wall

The 'Beverley Bar' bus is run by East Yorkshire Motor Services. It would be nice if they could run it through the Bar for the celebrations - quite a nice picture opportunity.

Seem to remember reading that the specially roofed EYMS double deckers will no longer fit through the Bar as road resurfacing has decreased the height of the throughway. If they try it they'll have to reduce tyre pressures!

Well, they have them pictured in the programme for the day so I guess that the hope is that they won't get stuck.

Tug - I put that in about the bar being a gate mainly for our American cousins.

Going through Beverley Bar.

The weather forecast isn't too great but it does only predict rain for Sunday morning. Hopefully it will be dry by time we go on at 1.50pm
