Subject: Lyr Req: Kevin Conneff sings a sonag about a goat
From: GUEST,Bigley

Hey all..

I saw a video of the Chieftains on PBS and Kevin Conneff sang a song about a goat that ends up as a bodhran. It wasn't the "Bodhran Song" that's told of the goat that wants to be a bodhran (a truely noble quest) but one that upset the fella and he made him into to one.

Does anyone know the name of the song or even better the lyrics.

I can be reached at bigley@gmail.com or post here

Thanks....

It's probably ' An Poc Ar Buile ' recorded variously by - The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners and The Cheiftains.

It's most likely 'When I grow up' written by Tim Lyons:

Oh I am a young kid, I'm worth scarcely twenty quid
I'm the kind of beast than you might well look down on,
But my value will increase at the time of my decease
for when I grow up I want to be a bodhrán.

Sorry, the song is by Brian O Rourke, Tim Lyons was involved in the initial plotting of the song though.

It's on "Down the Plank Road " as part of the extended version of "Fiddler a Dram". Sorry I don't have a transcription, but the last line is something like "his coat made a very fine bodhran"

Well here are the lyrics capt I'm not sure the type of coat he mentions...

There once was a dirty sly young goat
He chewed on my pants and my good new coat
And then he started messing with the farmers sheep
Which might have resulted in shoat or a geep
So the farmer and his brother got the loan of a gun
Sayin', "Where that goat there's a job to be done"
And they caught him there soon after dawn
And I can tell you that his coat made a very fine Bodhran

Go raibh maith agaibh
Shawn
