Subject: C/D SALES ON HIGHWAY
From: t.jack
Date: 15 Aug 09 - 05:20 PM

Hi folks,i leave at sun-up for the eastern shore of Halifax Co.N.S. I played a gig Fri.in Ormstown PQ.thanks to Beer, i sold a number of C/Ds and a handsome collection at the door. I`ll be selling my C/D
"Some Mothers Son"as i hitchhike along the way.I have hitched from coast to coast to coast, however, this time it will be selling my C/D works and picking up gigs as i travel along..Can`t seem to find my C/D in Wall Mart so I`ll bring it to the people that pick me up.
Any taughts?

          thanks TAMARACK JACK

No problem Crow Sister. We Canadians are an understanding bunch.
See you Saturday brother. Anxious to hear who attended. Probably all the fellows you use to tangle up with and the girls who use to chase you after I dropped them.

Give it a try Tim. Hell you may become famous as a traveling troubadour. If history is correct it all started centuries ago form across the pond and you would be just reviving it to a more modern way of selling your product.

there's 4 more verses... it was just written last week in West Chezzetcook,NS inspired by a turkey living across the road from Adrien and Norman's sister Judy..... the style is definitely vieux 'Cadien... it also felt good to sing a bit in French at the Acadien village when I did the show with Stormin'...
unfortunately not many French speakers left there..due to assimilation policies in the 60's..... but the pride is strong... and the people are great....

William Henry Drummond (1854-1907)
Little Bateese

You bad leetle boy, not moche you care
How busy you're kipin' your poor gran'pere
Tryin' to stop you ev'ry day
Chasin' de hen aroun' de hay–
W'y don't you geev' dem a chance to lay?
       Leetle Bateese!

Off on de fiel' you foller de plough
Den w'en you're tire you scare de cow
Sickin' de dog till dey jomp de wall
So de milk ain't good for not'ing at all–
An' you're only five an' a half dis fall,
       Leetle Bateese!

Too sleepy for sayin' de prayer to-night?
Never min', I s'pose it'll be all right
Say dem to-morrow–ah! der he go!
Fas' asleep in a minute or so–
An' he'll stay lak dat till de rooster crow,
       Leetle Bateese!

Den wake us up right away toute suite
Lookin' for somet'ing more to eat,
Makin' me t'ink of dem long leg crane
Soon as dey swaller, dey start again
I wonder your stomach don't get no pain,
       Leetle Bateese!

But see heem now lyin' dere in bed,
Look at de arm onderneat' hees head;
If he grow lak dat till he's twenty year
I bet he'll be stronger dan Louis Cyr
An' beat all de voyageurs leevin' here,
       Leetle Bateese!

Jus' feel de muscle along hees back,
Won't geev' heem moche bodder for carry pack
On de long portage, any size canoe,
Dere's not many t'ing dat boy won't do
For he's got double-joint on hees body too,
       Leetle Bateese!

But leetle Bateese! please don't forget
We rader you're stayin' de small boy yet,
So chase de chicken an' mak' dem scare
An' do w'at you lak wit' your ole gran'pere
For w'en you're beeg feller he won't be dere–
       Leetle Bateese!

Yeah, I don't think this sort of writing would be considered PC these days but I'm sure that in it's time it was considered high art.

At least a couple of people, or groups, around here sing "The Wreck of the Julie Plante"; I don't remember if I've heard it attributed to Drummond.

And re Bruce's observation about a "good-lookin' gal who can cook like no one's business": You can't go wrong if you marry a Judy Anne Smith!!

What Dean is saying here is that his wife and mine have all the same handles.
Brother Norm left this morning I think and should be here when ever. If he is back by tomorrow evening he may get a chance to play a little music at a school house of old. There will be a gathering of 20 to 30 musicians (mostly fiddles) which I'm sure he and his partner will appreciate.

You had better hold on, hold on to what you got.
You had better hold on, hold on to what you got,
'Cause if you think nobody wants it,
Just throw it away and you will see,
Someone will have it before you can count --
One, Two, Three.

Yes, they will.
Yes, they will.
