Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: Richard Bridge Date: 30 Aug 09 - 09:43 AM Not if driving... Perhaps the Sarf Lunnon mob would wisely organise themselves into a car pool, since I can see that Romany Man is lift-bereft, but the Tribe of Leopards are coming and Penny S (probably). I think I will probably come after all. Who from the Mudway Towns area wants to organise another car-pool? |

Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: RamblinStu Date: 01 Sep 09 - 02:40 AM A smashing day. Thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, the location, and the sunshine, oh and the beer. Thanks Adrian O for organising the event and I understand that another Mini Folk Festival is proposed for next year. Greetings to all who were there, and if you weren't, do try to make it next year Stuart Pendrill |
Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: VirginiaTam Date: 01 Sep 09 - 02:51 AM KEWL! Now I know who RamblinStu is. Sorry I stepped on your Midnight Special. I had a good time. Thanks Adrian. Lots of great performers. Still gobsmacked by Yvonne. TDL did my fav "Wee & a Shave" Barden and Bardettes were amazing. Love how John gets tearful on the Dancing Romancing song of his. Sweet. RB you were wonderful on mando-ccompniament. I want workshop at Knockers. |
Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 05:00 AM Thanks for the flattery. It's simple. Most of John's stuff is in D or G (or easily capo-able to one of them). There is only one note difference in the scales: the C or C#. So leave it out. Now if you play the wrong note (so long as it's in scale) it's a harmony, and if you're out of time it's syncopation or backbeat. Just watch the ins, outs, and tacets (bits where you stop playing in the middle of the song). Job done. The stuff Brian is doing on mandola is actually lots cleverer than what I'm doing on mandolin, and if you really want to see a mandolin-player locally (Kent), go to see Cliff Bayliss. |
Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: Girl Friday Date: 01 Sep 09 - 01:07 PM Fantastic day all round. Thanks to Adrian O' and all involved. Thanks for Richard's mando accompaniment. €i echo what he says about Cliff Bayliss. Great news that there's to be another festival next year! Sue |
Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: VirginiaTam Date: 01 Sep 09 - 02:53 PM Ahem Richard, It was not flattery. It was a compliment. Learn how to accept one once in t'while. Do your heart good, you old grump. Mando delivery taken today and it is absolutely a stunner. Looks just like one I saw Driftwood member carrying around yesterday. My playing will never do justice to how good this little baby sounds. |
Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: Richard Bridge Date: 01 Sep 09 - 03:23 PM I grump, therefore I am. |

Subject: RE: Mini Folk Festival Kent UK 31st August From: GUEST, Poxicat Date: 02 Jan 10 - 07:00 PM That was very pleasant. Thank you Adrian, your gift of the gab was hardly dented by immense hoarseness. Thank you the pub. I could manage without the 60s, 70s, and 80s hits and the electric guitar, and would a little (tiny little) PA rig be a plan for next time? |
