Alan Day and I are popping up to Stowmarket on Saturday 5th September to wreak a little havoc with concertinas and guitar. Any other 'Catters up for sessions there - and any advice on good venues?

Can't make it. But the village pub in Haughley (Damn can't remember it's name. but there is only one!) sometimes plays host to members of Old Hat, as The Howsons live there. Maybe contact them next week, as they are at Whitby at the moment.

You could do worse than to attend the Trad music day!!! Just google East Anglan Music trust, for a plethora of names!
Have played it with housewives....Brilliant lunchtime session..
Seems you picked the right day. Only wish I could be there myself

I'd guess there will be sessions at the King William on the Friday and Saturday evenings - that's the usual pattern. And a long session in the barn during the day.

Gav - it's actually the Royal William Pub, address 53 Union Street East, Stowmarket, IP14 1HP
And yes, sessions in that pub Friday evening and Saturday - be warned Will that the pub will be heaving on the Friday night (I haven't tried the Saturday one as yet). Lovely session, though, which I'd planned to be at, but can't now... but I shall (hopefully) be able to make the daytime events thanks to the possibility of rail and taxi access - see you there?

Oh, and, of course, as Ralphie said - session in the barn - most of the day. Big one that!!!

I'll be there. I think we(the Boat Band) are doing a bit of co-hosting some session somewhere, but I can't just recall where and when.

If your brain gets in gear, Greg, do let us know. I'd like to make Penkhull tomorrow, but it's a long way for the evening! So I'd love to catch up with you and the band at Stowmarket.

Have looked at the schedule. We are playing a concert in Edgar's Farmhouse from 11-12. Our Kate is doing something in the fiddle workshop from 1-2. We are co-hosting at a session in the Barn between 2.30 and 4.15, not sure what that involves. We also have a spot in the evening concert in the barn, some time between 8 and 11. Looks like we are fairly busy, but should have time to play socially somewhere or other as well.
There is an open session scheduled at the Royal William on Fri evening, which I imagine anyone goes to.I imagine some or all of the other stuff you need tickets for, I am not sure. I've not been before.

A day ticket is needed for admission to all events on site. If you;re going to the evening concert in the barn you need a ticket, but they sold out ages ago (they go very quickly); similarly you need a ticket for the buffet meal in between afternoon events and the evening concert in the barn. If not going to the concert, there is a session, again in the Royal William, for those who want to go (no tickets needed). I think there were still day tickets available at the moment, judging from the conversation I had with the office this morning.

Hmm ... having checked my programme it looks as though some of the events on site (like the stepping, have a go on a squeezebox etc sessions) are open to non-holders of day tickets (presumably people who have bought admission to the Museum as well then) - but all the main concerts and events are ticket holder only.....

That was how it was last year, the main Concert and the Meal was a special ticket, the afternoon session formed part of the ticket to enter the compound.

I had a ticket last year (I think it was day ticket) but got a bit confused as to what I could get in and what I couldn't. But then I only decided to go about 3 days before. lol!

Nope sorry Alan - wrong!!! Entrance to the Museum is a separate matter. People paying to come into the Museum can do the freebie outdoor items, but a Day ticket INCLUDES the Museum entrance, and allows entry to the specific events during the day which are ticket holder only (such as the session in the barn, the sings in the Chapel etc etc). Tickets for the buffet meal, and the evening concert are completely separate. All explained here

No tickets available to purchase on the door on the day by the way!

Hey looks interesting. Wish I was coming over for that. I would have met up with Greg too.
However, I'm over the week after for another reason.

Read my family reunion blog to find out why.

Chas
