It's an old IRA song. I remember a youth leader singing this to us on the beach in New South Wales along with some Protestent songs from the same era (just to be even-handed). Does anybody know the words?

Hi Ian!

Welcome to the Mudcat!

Insomnia being what it is, I get to field this request...

For future reference, if you're looking for a song, you can look up into the upper right hand corner of this page and see a search box for the 'DT', or Digital Tradition database. The song you're looking for is in the DT, but if you'd like, you can also click here to find it.

Here's hoping you stick around!

M

A model answer, Sean! Ian: ignore this; when you've been here a bit longer you'll understand the depth of irony I'm trying to promote here. Read a few threads, then come back and make your own contribution.

Steve

P.S. Didi I say "welcome to the 'Cat"? Welcome to the 'Cat!

An additional couplet (sung before the last verse):

Some men fight for silver, some men fight for gold, But the IRA are fighting for the land that the Saxons stole.
