Subject: The Boat Band Anniversary Concert -clips From: Will Fly Date: 04 Oct 09 - 03:33 PM You can see some clips of the Boat Band's 20th Anniversary Concert on 30th September at the New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme here. It was a fabulous evening, and I hope the clips convey some of the atmosphere. |

Subject: RE: The Boat Band Anniversary Concert -clips From: greg stephens Date: 05 Oct 09 - 05:19 AM This is my current favourite of Will Fly's videos, a Romanian tune we played called Muntilor The story connected is that we (the Boat Band) were boating from Islay to the Mull of Kintyre in thick fog, with no foghorn on the boat, no radar and no GPS to tell us where we were. So we were navigating the old way, and we put Kate and Dan, the two ship's trombonists, in the bow. And got them to sound the official blasts as prescribed in the Admiraly instructions. A great trip, and the navigation worked very well. We came out of the fog bank into brilliant sun and there was the Mull looming over us exactly where it should have been. And in the video you see those ship's trombonists, twenty years older, doing there stuff in the arrangement. |

Subject: RE: The Boat Band Anniversary Concert -clips From: greg stephens Date: 06 Oct 09 - 05:58 PM Leadfingers: well, you'd have been all right on the grand finale Magic Island Merengue; we got in front of the mics and did it acoustic, as in the old days of the boat and into the bar in Scotland. Perhaps we should have done the whole concert like that? This came up for considerable discussion. |
