Subject: Sir Roger's Farewell to Beverley
From: Sir Roger de Beverley
Date: 09 Oct 09 - 07:17 AM

After ten years of living and playing in Beverley I am shortly to move to the Harrogate area.

I'm hoping to get a last play with all of those who I've met over that time and, as part of that, Oombanjo has organised a prolonged singaround/session at the Sun Inn on Sunday 25th October starting at 3pm and going into the evening.

At my request the event is also a fundraiser for the victims of the recent earthquakes/tsunamis and there will be raffles and collections galore.

There will also be a buffet provided by the pub licensees.

If anyone wants more info please pm Oombanjo. There are quite a few performers lined up already but we can always fit in more.

The SBBS have also decided to retire as a gigging band so the 25th may be your last chance to catch us all together.

I don't have a definite date for moving yet but it will be in the next 6 weeks or so. I'll try and catch up with anyone who can't get to the Sun on the 25th in that time.

Anyone know of a good session in Harrogate or nearby?

Roger

Sorry to see this venerated and venerable mate leave the area.

A true gentleman.

Any road, be doing some stuff round Harrogate so I will keep in touch with him.

'cos of me world tour of Cornwall wont make the do, but will have slurp or twelve with yer afore ye go Rog.

I'm so sorry I can't make it on the 25th Roger.
You'll be missed. Hope to get to see and sing with you again before your departure.
Can't believe you're leaving. Happy memories of Grey Funnel Line, and many many more songs over so many Sundays. Buddy Holly comes to mind!

Take care over there.

Roger

It's not on the doorstep but you would always be welcome to pop into Flaxton any Wednesday of the year - Flaxton music

Not sure I'll make it there but I have enjoyed playing with and listening to you over time.

Willa - maybe Mike will write one of his fiddle tunes to that title. He already did me a jig a few years ago.

Any suggestions for a new Mudcat name?

"Sir Roger, ex Beverley"   -   so you'll still be easy to spot!

I'm sure you don't want
'NOT Sir Roger de Beverley' or
'Formerley Sir Roger de Beverley'

One wonders if the 'Harrogate area' already has 'titled performers?

Robin and Barry Dransfield always claimed to come from Leeds because they thought that Harrogate sounded a bit posh if they announced that in folk clubs!

See you Sunday, Rog!

Next one is 31 October at 8.30pm.
Come and meet some players & singers.

Its looking good although a sad time, Roger has taken the lead in keeping music live and open to all. He will be missed by us all and an asset to wherever he ends up. Although I will be with him this weekend I feel the need to let all on mudcat know how much of an example he has set for us to follow. Always the gentleman with a fine sense of humour and a brilliant musician. Best wishes to Roger & Chris. Oombanjo and the Dixie Chick. aka John & Sheelagh

Phew, what a night.

I'm not sure how many performers there were but first went on stage at 1530 and the last finished at 2130 with no repeats!

Thanks to all who peformed and all those who turned up to support us.

Especial thanks to the Yeamans for organising things and to Roy for managing the stage. Also to The Sun management for the mega buffet.

It was a surprise to have a presentation from the Mayor and Mayoress of Beverley but a pleasant one.

How good to be with friends for such a nice send off

Roger (soon to be ex Beverley)

It was grand Rog, although rather strangely I found a jar of chutney in my handbag this morning! Well done to John and Sheila and to Roy for their magnificent organisation. We will miss you but I know you will be back soon. Linda

A jar of chutney! Or should that be "a handbag!"

I know that this is getting a bit like Frank Sinatra's never-ending farewells but I'll be playing my last Sunday session at The Sun today and the last open mic at The Sun on Tuesday.
