Subject: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Oct 09 - 03:35 PM Sometimes 'a 'Catter, even a very active one, can drift away sometimes taking a break or cutting back on the time spent here. We've had many disappear for a few years like Banjo Bonnie or Cuillion or CamiSu and then come back for awhile regularly or just to say "Hi." Kat started a thread hoping to snag a few passing by who have just been lurking which also happens. Sadly, there is also another option................... Metchosin (Susan Grieve) died in October of last year from leukemia which she had been fighting. Although she did share that with some of us, it wasn't generally known as was her wish. Her husband was good enough to respond to an e-mail from kat the other day. Mets was a great 'Catter. She could be counted on to show up in all types of threads with good info or great stories or funny and often biting humor for which I loved her. She also had a special feel for her animals and that too endeared her to many another 'Catter. She had great artistic talent and excellent musical knowledge.......All these things made her a natural for the 'Cat.......and she was. I'd love to say something else but her sister wrote a great obit that says so much............ "GRIEVE, Susan Jacqueline September 3, 1946 - October 16, 2008 Peacefully at home in the company of her loving husband, Jim, and her two terriers, Maddy and Duff. Sue leaves her husband, Jim Grieve; her two daughters, Devon Grieve (Mike Rheault), and Ceilidh Clausen (Rolf); brother, Russ Godfrey (Irene); nephews, Nick, and Ben Godfrey; her horse buddy, Sailor; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Sue was a feisty, larger than life person who loved life and was intensely curious about "everything" and about which she would freely express her opinion. She deeply loved her family, friends, nature, animals, music, single malt, and her home. She was fiercely loyal and protective of her musical family and a devoted fan and supporter of their music. Sue was always cheerful (mostly), and dauntless in adversity, and faced her final challenging months with unflagging courage and optimism. We deeply miss you, Suze! Your enthusiasm and humour was contagious and you were the coolest sister ever! There is no service but a celebration of Sue's life will take place in the future. Family and friends will be notified. Donations may be made in Sue's name to the Canadian Cancer Society." If you wish to read any of Mets' almost 5500 posts, CLICK HERE But for just a taste of her flavor, her last post only a month before her passing was on a thread asking "What does Sarah Palin remind you of"........She answered, "Rambo Barbie.".. .........yeah..........we're gonna' miss you Mets............ It's hard to keep track of those who are not 'on' regularly, and who you don't know personally, but she was a real part of this community for a few years, and it saddens me to read of her passing. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin From: Charley Noble Date: 30 Oct 09 - 04:27 PM I did hear that sad news a month or two ago from her husband when I was planning to revisit Vancouver Island. Susan and her family had made me and Judy feel welcome there on our first trip and I wanted to thank her again for her hospitality and share some more music with them. Too many good people have passed on this year. Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin From: katlaughing Date: 30 Oct 09 - 04:57 PM Thanks, Pat, for starting this. I know it was hard for your heart as it was for mine. One thing I remember about her, too, is that she was a professional scientific illustrator using pencil and pen and ink, if I remember correctly. I remember being blown away by the detail and exquisite execution she brought to her artwork, little bugs, plants, etc. Truly incredible. And, she was a wonderful person all round. I was really, really sad to get the email from her husband. I hope she found some old dog friends and has a horse or two for a trail ride into the mountains of wherever she is...it's how I'd like to think of her. (Wish my old computer hadn't died..I had some great pix of her on there.) Thanks for being here, Mets, you are missed and loved, kat |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Oct 09 - 05:22 PM I'm sorry to read this. I'd actually been wondering about a couple of those 'catters whose posts I still have parked in my PMs and I hadn't heard from for a while. The news is old, but our sadness is fresh and strong. She made an impression on a lot of us that I hope her loved ones will appreciate. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin From: frogprince Date: 30 Oct 09 - 06:56 PM Susan was the first person from the forum that I met in person; when I mentioned that my wife and I were bound for Vancouver Island, she immediately started chipping in helpful information, and gave us her home number. We stopped at their home, first met Susan and Devon who was at home. When Jim got home from work they took us out to a good little restaurant, all the while prepping us with information for the rest of out island touring. A funny, feisty, but gracious lady. Jim is the instumentalist, but Susan knew the lyrics to a mind-boggling number of songs. R.I.P Dean |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin (October 16, 2008) From: bobad Date: 30 Oct 09 - 07:05 PM Susan was one of the first persons I engaged with when first coming to Mudcat due to the bit of commonality we shared owing to the fact that I had spent some time in the community from which she derived her moniker. Like others I enjoyed her posts and her gracious persona. My condolences to all who knew and loved her. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin (October 16, 2008) From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Oct 09 - 12:34 PM I worried a bit about running this thread but I'm glad I did. We are a real community, a very real village......but a cyber one. In a 3D village we would have known and also had the physical presence to help the grief process, This is the best we can do and though its not enough, its something................... I neglected to add to my first post my sincerest and best thoughts to Susan's family. I'm glad they shared her with us. Pat |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin (October 16, 2008) From: Ebbie Date: 01 Nov 09 - 10:17 PM I too am so sorry. I'm especially miffed at myself because in the last PM I had from her she alluded to a chronic health issue in an offhand manner and I breezed back with some kind of treacle. I didn't know. She was a rare one and I enjoyed her a lot. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin (October 16, 2008) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Dec 09 - 12:17 PM Thanks for letting us know that you're around. The holidays are usually the hardest time of year after losing a parent; for me, Thanksgiving is the most poignant, when I'm reminded of all of the things my mother did to pull us together into a group for that big meal. Subject: RE: Obit: Mudcatter---Metchosin (October 16, 2008) From: katlaughing Date: 08 Dec 09 - 12:23 PM Ceilidh, thanks for posting. It is not easy to lose a parent and SRS is right, holidays seem to make it more poignant and reflective which can sadden one so much. But, I think your mom wouldn't want you to be too sad. May your memories and family help ease your grief. In Peace, kat |
