Subject: KITTY and DEREK or is it DEREK and KITTY From: SunrayFC Date: 01 Nov 09 - 10:22 AM At the Sunray Folk Club (Broadmayne Village Hall, UK DT2 8EW) Thursday 26 Nov 09 we have a duo who always give us a good night! And in support, a new "band" Fippenny Piece, aka as Chas n Sammy and others. Should be a good night. |

Subject: RE: KITTY and DEREK or is it DEREK and KITTY From: Andy Jackson Date: 01 Nov 09 - 01:26 PM What's more important is the way the combination flows. Gordon and Peter ? Johnny Dyer and Vicki Swan ? Costello and Abbott? Hardy and Laurel? Sweep and Sooty? And I don't think it's just what we are used to. If the first name ends with a descending sound this leads naturally to the joining "and". Also the change from "and" to the second name sometimes flows, sometimes not. Back to the case in point, although I have probably known Kitty longer than Derek, now they are firmly Derek and Kitty. They sound just as good either way round mind. Sorry about the rambling, I'm bored. |

Subject: RE: KITTY and DEREK or is it DEREK and KITTY From: MGM·Lion Date: 22 Nov 09 - 03:53 AM "It should be 'Ladies first' - hope you have a great night " Just as a general observtn - that is so, except for married·couples/partners, where husband's/male's name often comes first - from the King & Queen to Fred & Betty Jones. I used to like to refer to, sign, and so on, my late wife & me as 'Valerie & Michael' on above principle; but most of our friends would go on saying, & addressing Xmas cards &c, 'Michael & Valerie'. |
