Subject: New South Derbyshire Trad Session From: OlgaJ Date: 02 Nov 09 - 06:35 AM We are setting up a new Acoustic Session at the Drum and Monkey, Castle Gresley, South Derbyshire starting on Monday 16th November, which will run on the 3rd Monday every month. This has been arranged to complement the club we run at Worthington, Leicestershire, which runs on the 2nd Monday and is mainly a singer's club. The new session will be less formal so although singers are more than welcome they will have to take their chance and jump in when they can. We would like to keep it ACOUSTIC as far as possible as in our experience when you start letting guitar amps in people decide that they need vocal mics and everyone who can plug in does, turning it into more of a rock jam which isn't what we are aiming at. Everyone welcome to join in or just sit and listen. We'll see how it goes |

Subject: RE: New South Derbyshire Trad Session From: Dick The Box Date: 02 Nov 09 - 03:22 PM Is this intended to be mainly a tune session? If so, will it have a flavour (English, Irish etc) or just whatever you fancy playing? |

Subject: RE: New South Derbyshire Trad Session From: OlgaJ Date: 02 Nov 09 - 05:14 PM This is intended to be mainly music, any type so long as it is vaguely folk/trad but of course it will depend on who turns up. these things usually start off being one thing and end up being something slightly different. All acoustic instruments are welcome, we'd love to see boxes, fiddles, banjos, whistles etc. Singers are very welcome but it is intended to be an informal sort of session with no 'going round the room', hopefully it will be good fun. What is now the Worthington session started at the Drum and Monkey and was going well until there was a change of landlord. He didn't seem to like the fact that we were bringing 20 or so more people in on a Monday night than they usually get in! There has been another change of management and they are happy to give it a try for a few months. Hope to see you there on the 16th. |
