Ross was once considered as one of Canada's best guitar players. I did not know Ross well but I played at a few concerts that he was also at. His playing was superb! RIP!

BROUGHM, Ross James

— 76, Antigonish. It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Ross Broughm on Friday, November 20, 2009, in St. Martha's Hopital, Antigonish. Born in Lockport, he was the son of the late Ross A. Sr. and Ruby (Burke) Broughm. He was a prominent guitarist who was featured on The Don Messer show & Sing-A-Long Jubilee in 1963. He worked all over Canada in music and was awarded the Canadian Guitarist of the Year in Montreal, Que. in 1976. Moving to Antigonish 30 years ago, he retired from Bragg Communications where he worked for over 20 years entertaining the public with his talents. He went on to write and play for local venues. He has been volunteering to play in the local retirement homes at community events. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosena (Benoit); his children, Sharon Deveau, Merle (Jeff) Keeble, Barbara Broughm, Kevin (Leslie) Broughm; the mother of his children, Beulah Myers. He will be missed by his beloved dog, Starr. He is also survived by brothers, Robert (Shirley), Richard (Helen); five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, as well as his 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold, Arthur, Harley, and sister, Evangeline Matthews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, in Full Gospel Pentecostal Assembley Church, Antigonish, with Rev. Harvey Martell and Rev. Bob Innis officiating. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Martha's Veteran's Ward, Antigonish. On-line condolences may be sent to our webpage at:www.chantfuneralhome.com

Ross was truly a gentleman first and an outstanding musician. He was master of his Gretch guitar. He was so humble in his musicial achievements and inspired many people with his gift. I'm sure Ross is in the presence of his musicial hero, Chet Atkins. May the music always flow. God Bless. Will the circle be unbroken...by and by.
