Subject: Hunting The Sun Also Rises From: GUEST,Ian Anderson Date: 01 Dec 09 - 04:07 PM Does anybody know the whereabouts of Graham & Anne Hemingway, the duo from Cardiff who recorded in 1970 as The Sun Also Rises? I'm on a mission, harnessing the power of t' interweb. 2010 is the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Village Thing label that I co-founded in Bristol and seems to have acquired something of a cult status. I'm putting together a 40th anniversary compilation for next year, and have been tracking down all the artists that I can. I'm now in touch with virtually everybody surviving (we've sadly lost Derroll Adams and Al Jones). I even recently had a phone conversation with Bill Lackey of Lackey & Sweeney, tracked down in Tucson AZ with the help of Google, MySpace, Facebook and emails, who I'd last seen in LA in 1980. But The Sun Also Rises, one of our first releases. Even though theirs was the cultest of cult VT releases that has been re-issued on CD and vinyl several times in the past few years and fetches silly eBay prices - they've seemingly evaporated into thin air. Any clues as to where they might be, or even to where they might have been, really welcome. 40 years suddenly seems like a long time. Even Son House hadn't been missing that long . . . |

Subject: RE: Hunting The Sun Also Rises From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 03 Dec 09 - 02:18 AM My husband Meic Goodyear would be interested to know what they are up to as Graham taught him guitar in the late 1960s. Have they got a website, or are they on the irritating Facebook? Valmai |
Subject: RE: Hunting The Sun Also Rises From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Dec 09 - 04:45 AM The Sun Also Rises, published in 1926, was Ernest Hemingway's first major novel. Were Graham and Anne related to Ernest, or did they just use the title to take advantage of having the same name? There's a song from The Sun Also Rises at YouTube. -Joe- |
