Subject: RE: Wath Folk Club PermaThread From: Dennis the Elder Date: 26 Feb 17 - 07:16 AM It is with great regret that I announce that it has been decided to wind up the club. It has been going for decades and over the years has had some wonderful times. Numbers have dwindled over the last few years and the last meeting was attended by one person, me. May I thank all who have supported us over the years and in particular management and staff at The Red Lion, most recently Shane. We have had some great regulars over the years some of which can still be seen at the Imperial in Mexborough and The Rafters in Wath. The Wath Festival is not connected to the Wath Folk Club and is not affected by this decision. If in the future anyone wants to resurrect the Wath Folk Club, please contact me either via Mudcat or the Red Lion Folk Club Website Once again may I thank all who have visited the Club over the years and the support and great entertainment they provided. Regards Dennis |

Subject: RE: Wath Folk Club PermaThread From: GUEST,David Nuttall, Wakefield Date: 27 Feb 17 - 11:05 AM Sorry to hear of the demise of the club , Dennis. I know you have tried your best to keep it going for a long time....but you can't do much without the support from singers and instrumentalists. Such closures ( and those of pubs themselves ) seems to be a sign of the times. You are always very welcome at our Wakefield Folk Sessions and we look forward to seeing you. Best Wishes, David |
Subject: RE: Wath Folk Club PermaThread From: MoorleyMan Date: 27 Feb 17 - 12:17 PM Well said, David Nuttall. And thanks Dennis. Dennis is another of those good guys who does his best to keep live music going hereabouts but these days it's all too easy to get defeated - by the fickleness of the commercial world rather than by any disaffection or disloyalty on the part of our local singers and musicians, I hasten to add. Sadly, sometimes it has to be easier to just call it a day and lie low and ponder awhile. What comes around... |
