Well, those folks up there have to have something to do in January. :-) As for lighthouse photos, Joe, I'm afraid I barely will have time to do anything other than the gigs. It's going to be mostly driving and I am also doing a kids' program at the school in Lubec on Friday before Winter Harbor.

Then down to Sinsull's, which will be an all day drive.

I'll take this opportunity to refresh this and also announce a radio interview and a Boston-area performance next week.

Tomorrow, Januaray 15, I'll be performing on "Live at Noon" with Dave Palmater on WUMB 91.9 FM. You can also listen online at WUMB.org . This broadcast at noon EST.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, I'll be doing a very special show at Johnny D's Uptown, 17 Holland St., Davis Square in Somerville. I'll be joined by an old friend of mine, guitarist Bill Cooley who is currently playing in Kathy Mattea's band and who in the past has performed with Reba McIntyre, Alan Jackson and Merle Haggard.

The show starts at 7:30 PM and tickets are $10. I am also planning on performing the shanty that Ernie Johnson and David Coffin wrote in honour of our dear friend, Barry Finn. It would be so nice to have some voices there to join in.

Just a correction, The City of South Portland Parking Ordinance is that there is parking on city streets from Midnight to 6 a.m. from November 1 to April 1 unless there is a parking ban for a snow storm. That should buy you 6 more hours of on-street parking.

It was freed. Temporary closure until they checked for more loose concrete.
Amazing no one was killed. A 15' section of the facade broke loose from the third floor and hit the pavement. No one was walking underneath - almost impossible. A piece went through the back window of a passing car missing two children in the back. The only casualty -the awning on the store below.

Just home, me. Kendall was kind enough to come early for some hugs before heading home to peace and quiet. Thanks, Kendall.

Tom's beef stew was delicious (lots of mushrooms, gnu.) I saw chili too, a mixed salad, and Jason's delectable quiche as well as many kinds of good cheese, homemade bread, dessert goodies, strawberries and Clementine oranges.

Deb sang a wonderful variety of songs and managed the unruly members of the audience with skill and humor. Ask her about her folding guitar with the beautiful tone when it's your turn to hear her sing.

Charley Noble played his banjo and sang a charming song whose title I missed while in the kitchen. Hunt and Animaterra played/sang a couple of bluesy numbers, too. I sang "New Hampshire Spring" before I left- a song I had just finished a week before the fire, and one that would have been in ashes like most of the others except that I had sent the lyrics to a couple of trusted friends. I'm finding singing difficult these days- I'll do better another time.

Thank you to Mary for another lovely night, and Deb for the music. It was a treat to finally meet Animaterra and her Hunt (thank you both for the special gift), Cuillion, Sue - oh dear, I've forgotten some new names already- and to see Tami, Jason, Jeri, Kendall, TRUBRIT, and Tom.

Lovely song that you composed and sang.

The second song I did was Evening Shadows Fall, my fond memory of late night gatherings in the sacred groves of the Gurage country in Ethiopia from when I was resident there in the early 1960's. The words came to me when I was flying back from a revisit last year.

Deb did her usual great job with her concert, a mix of traditional and newly composed traditional sounding songs, with a few wild cards thrown in; her first song, for example, described in detail an exploration of a sister's nose. Unfortunately this one was not on the CDs I purchased, unless the title is in disguise.

Jeri just left. All is quiet except for some demanding cats annoyed at having been ignored for more than an hour. Deb was wonderful - an interesting mix of old and new, lots of choruses. So amazingly good to see maeve fussing around in my kitchen - it's been too long.

And I got to keep the banana bread encrusted with pecans. Yum!

Pictures!! On the way home I realized that my camera never left my bag! If I'da took pictures I'da posted pictures. Oh, well.
Hunt and I had a perfectly lovely time seeing all you good folks and hearing Deb's wonderful singing. Highlight Deb-songs for me were "All the tunes in the world", one about the coming of the Danes (?), a shanty for Barry Finn (tears!), and, oh, my tired brain is too foggy to think of other specifics. But oh, dear Debra, how lovely to see and hear you again!!

Maeve, darling, it was wonderful to meet you. Your song was beautiful! And I also loved hearing your harmonies from across the table, and hearing your voice and mine (and Jeri's) adjust to each other's harmonies!

Charley's songs were fantastic, and just being with such fine folks gave both Hunt and me such pleasure. Mary, you are a great hostess!

Jeri, Tami, TruBrit, Cuillion and all- it's a pleasure to know you in person! (and that was the best beef stew I have ever, ever eaten- ever!)

It was also great to see Tom looking so well. (He was delighted with You-Know-What, Mary!). Now we're home, the wood is in the stove, the cats are done (for now) with their "the hoomans are home!" freakout (we figure they associate us with bringing the warmth back into the house, so we think they're pleased).

No sooner did we step in the door than a fellow member of the town Planning Board came to yak to Hunt for an hour, so now we will begin decompression and savoring the time we spent in Maine.

Actually, it helps make the single mannequin leg fit in... (into what, I don't know)

Never told you, I guess, about the occasional table we used to have (back in Cinematheque days) that was an upraised (and formally attired) arm and hand holding a clear plexiglass table top as if it were a tray.

I am home now, having arrived at 3 AM this morning from a wonderful trip in Maine, ending last night at Sinsull's. I have been thinking about Mary's house concerts a lot today and I am sorry that I can't get to So. Portland more often.

Sins and Jacqui (and the folks who attend) have created a truly wonderful community. This (to me at least) is what folk music is all about.

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who was there last night. A thousand thank yous to Mary and Jacqui for continuing to foster this wonderful community in New England. I am proud to call you all friends and I am grateful to have you all in my life.
