Subject: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Effsee Date: 12 Jan 10 - 11:49 PM What is wrong with this thread? Every time I click on to it I get a blank page (after a long wait) !!! |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: GUEST,999- Date: 12 Jan 10 - 11:58 PM It's effed up. |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: GUEST,999--no idea what that means, but that's the Date: 13 Jan 10 - 12:10 AM message I get, Effsee Error Occurred While Processing Request Error Diagnostic Information An error occurred while evaluating the expression: #val(URL.ThreadID)# Error near line 17, column 21. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Error resolving parameter URL.THREADID The specified URL parameter cannot be found. This problem is very likely due to the fact that you have misspelled the parameter name. The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (#val(URL.ThreadID)#), occupying document position (17:20) to (17:38) in the template file D:\!WEBSERVER\MUDCAT\HTDOCS\THREAD.CFM. Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Effsee Date: 13 Jan 10 - 12:13 AM Oh well 999, that's a bit more informative than a blank page! Doesn't mean a thing to me either! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Jan 10 - 12:35 AM Effsee: I can't tell what thread you're referring to since the URL got truncated when you pasted it into the thread title field. Please post again and put the URL into the body of the message. Or give the title of the thread. |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: JohnInKansas Date: 13 Jan 10 - 12:54 AM Effsee - The Subject line for this thread truncates what you probably entered, so we can't tell what thread you're talking about. The error message only tells us that the thread id failed, but doesn't tell us what id you told it to look for. This thread has the full url: http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=126498&messages=4 What you entered to go to the thread in question should look similar, with a different number following the "threadid=" and a different number after the "&messages=." The threadid should consist of a thread number and number of messages. The error message is telling you that it couldn't find what you entered as the "address" for the thread. If you used a link to try to go to the thread, the link might have been constructed with a link error. The address might have been mistyped. Sometimes a copy and paste adds an extraneous character, or drops one. The data base might have a "corrupt entry" for the particular thread you're looking for. The long delay you see is because the 'cat is looking for something it can't find. The blank screen and error message just tell you that it failed to find what you asked for. If you can enter the full target url in a post to this thread (as text - no need to make a link), so that we can tell what specific thread you're trying to load, one of us might be able to see if the url has an error, or we could try to see if we can access the thread you want. Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Artful Codger Date: 13 Jan 10 - 04:18 PM Better still, when specifying thread links, rather than links to specific posts, it's best to omit the "&message" bit and everything thereafter. Otherwise, if that post happens to get deleted (or threads get merged or split?), the URL may become unresolvable. If you chop off the end of the URL in your location bar, it may work properly. |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Effsee Date: 13 Jan 10 - 11:02 PM Thanks for the info chaps! As I've said to Joe in a PM... I've been racking my brain all afternoon to think of the thread title, but nothings coming up. It was obviously something which peaked my interest. I've looked over the past 3 days and nothing rings a bell! This Aultimer's Disease is definitely setting in! (Although I still remember how to spell "definitely"...without an "a") ;-) |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: JohnInKansas Date: 14 Jan 10 - 03:03 AM Effsee - If you click your own name at the "From: Effsee" in a post, it will take you to a list of all the threads you've posted in. That might help you remember - if the one you wanted was one where you'd made a comment in the past. You can do the same for anyone else you think might have posted to the thread you're looking for, if you can find a another thread where they've posted. You can also use the form: http://mudcat.org/usersearch.cfm?who=Effsee substituting any registered username in place of "Effsee" It can be hard to get the names exactly right unless you have the name right in front of you, unless it's a very familiar one. An extra space or typing like you remember from the way you pronounce it (or adding the "^*#!!" that you usually append in thought to some of the names) probably will get a "miss" on the search. Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Artful Codger Date: 14 Jan 10 - 03:17 PM And you need to use "%20" to replace any space in the user name. |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: Effsee Date: 14 Jan 10 - 11:08 PM John in K, thanks for the advice, but I hadn't posted on the thread, I think it was only two or three posts old, which made me all the more curious why I couldn't raise it. I should have mentioned the thread subject rather than just C&Ping it from the "front page". |
Subject: RE: Tech: http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadi From: katlaughing Date: 14 Jan 10 - 11:15 PM If you had the whole addy when you tried to access it, getting a blank page may have meant it was in the process of being moved to combine with a like thread, or to another section, or being deleted. Another, old-fashioned way of looking for someone's posts, even your own, is to go up to the QUICK LINKS, use the drop down menu, scroll down until you see OLD Adv. Forum Search. Click on that and then GO; Follow the instructions, putting the member's name you are looking for in the proper box, etc. Have you looked in your browser's history files? Everywhere you visit is listed unless you have them deleted each time you close your browser or on a set day of the week, etc. If you find a bunch of mudcat files listed near or on the date you remember, just click on each one and see where it leads you. |
