A La Rochelle Est Arrive.   This is a bit of a long shot but does anyone have the notation for this song or know where I could get hold of it? Many thanks.

I'm looking for the notation for this song. Does anyone have it or can anyone tell me where I can obtain it? Many thanks.

There are a couple of threads if you search under 'Roullez' or 'Roulez'. The words are in the DT here and from there follow the link for the midi file. I cannot confirm if the tune is the same as the one I know by William Pint and Felicia Dale as I have no speakers here at work!

Hope this helps

Cheers

Dave

I haven't heard the Pint and Dale version but I can confirm that this is the same tune used by Mal Waite.

Thanks very much for replying. I am hoping to find the notation as well as the tune. Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this song?

It seems to be related to 'Trois Navires de Ble' which was recorded by the Newfoundland band Great Big Sea.

The music notation and words are available in the book Chansons de Marins 1990 edt Jean Paul Gisserot; the tune is the same as sung by Mal Waite, as Rhiannon said, and the lyrics are those given in the DT

Jenny - we posted two transcriptions of tunes for you yesterday in your original thread: Tune Req: Notes required please. (click this link to find them. If you don't know what to do with the abc for the tunes leave a message and we'll point you in the direction of an online converter from abc to notes).

Perhaps a MudElf can combine the threads.

Mick

Here you can see an excerpt of the book mentioned two posts above. You'll find the song -score and lyrics- on page 48

Monique - when I tried that yesterday P48 wasn't accessible for me (UK) (at least the full page wasn't; search would show the page but no content).

If I search I get messages telling me there are restrictions on viewing the page and if I try to page through from the cover I get a message saying the number of pages I can see has been exceeded. (True on google.fr as linked by Monique and on google.com/google.co.uk when I tried those yesterday. Perhaps they don't like my overall use of google books!).

The score and lyrics can also be found on p.13 of "Cahiers de chants de marins #4, Mer du Nord et Manche" edited by Le Chasse-Marée. I checked their web site and all four songbooks they were selling don't seem to be available anymore. Nevertheless the songbook mentioned is available as a hard cover + cd for €19.

The lyrics and score also is on p. 31 of an unnumbered "Cahiers de chants de marin," dated 1995. An interesting issue, with the tablature for the accordeon.

Also on p. 55 of Chants de marins hard cover + cd, but it seems to be unavailable.

Q - Is book #3 (the red one)the one you mean?

leeneia's link didn't work for me either - same messages.

However! I went to my Internet temp files, deleted google cookies and google temp files and then I was able to get both the P48 version and the P33 version from the two books. I must remember this in future when google books tells me I can't see a page; my comment above that it didn't like my overall use maybe not too far from the truth!

Thanks for everyone who did reach the pages and try to give me the links. (I did find the pages yesterday; just couldn't see anything on them). Special thanks to Monique who sent me a screen dump of the page.

Mick

There was a previous thread about it with a translation.
About "la plus jeune eut le pied levé" I do wonder if it's about coming aboard. I'd rather think that her having had a "foot up/raised foot" has the same meaning of her having had "a light leg/thigh", i.e. that she yelded far too quickly to the -let's hope handsome- sailor. A woman "with a light leg/thigh" is a loose woman.

Monique, I have a hardcover Chants de Marins with cd; p. 55 has the song but with title Roulez Jeunes Gens Roulez, I missed it.
The book in which I found it has a picture of a fiddler atop the capstan, the general color with a lot of orangy-brown; no number on it.

It is unfortunate that these books are no longer available from amazon.ca. I tried ordering ones I lacked from France, but no luck.

Q, I have this one too. A year and a half ago, Le Chasse-Marée had four paperback on sale, I bought the whole lot (4+1) for €56.30 shipping included. They're not available from Amazon.fr, nor from Le Chasse-Marée either.

Correction: some are still available from Amazon.fr, Canada, UK and Germany -to tell the truth I didn't check on Amazon China!- most at normal prices

"Leenia, it's the address of the link I posted at 7:51am"

No it isn't. The link posted at 7:51 was to the title page of the book, and the arrows to get to other pages of the book don't function. It takes a wily computer user to get to page 48.

I posted the link to page 48 in hopes that it would help, but it doesn't. These things happen.
