Subject: RE: Folk/Tad music in Tenerife From: Folkiedave Date: 16 Feb 10 - 05:41 AM I met a young lady who was studying on the Irish tradition course in Limerick who made a living for a couple of years doing the Irish bars in Tenerife so there must be some Irish sessions. It is not a concept entirely unknown is Spain - I have been to flamenco "sessions" but finding them would be extremely difficult I would imagine. In Tenerife more likely to bin the La Laguna area - certainly more likely in the north. |
Subject: RE: Folk/Tad music in Tenerife From: GUEST,George Henderson Date: 16 Feb 10 - 10:22 AM Thanks Folkiedave. Will look around and see. I was just hoping that somebody had come across something good in the trad area and save me a physical search. |
Subject: RE: Folk/Tad music in Tenerife From: Kenny B (inactive) Date: 16 Feb 10 - 01:51 PM Hi George if you are in the Las Americas Los Christianos areas there is allegedly a session at the Claddach one level up from the beach on a Sunday afternoon. From what Ive heard it can sometimes be very good and varied For Irish trad? the Chieftain underneath the Columbus Aparthotel is good entertainment if Terry Bury is playing. if you are a singer/player he is happy to let you do a few numbers. The Irish Fiddlern and the Temple bar at San Eugenio are owned by the same Irish couple as the Chieftain and provide similar "irish Pub" entertainment. Kitty O'Sheas is at the Marina below Sam Eugenio and i believe a reasoably well known irish performer is based thee (Dave Breen?) If its entertainement with an Irish flavour is wanted McGuinesses bar just off the beach walkway at the north end of the Mediterreanian palace can be recommended music is proveded by Adrian Brooks except for the 16- 18 feb when Phil? a very good keyboard player singer and entertainer will be filling in for Adrian. Hope you enjoy Teneriffe I Have missed out on the Dublinner and Fitzparticks at Veronicas and thh Irish Corner at the "Patch" which are very young pop /irish at present Kenny B Ps can you let me know if you find anywhere else |

Subject: RE: Folk/Tad music in Tenerife From: GUEST,George Henderson Date: 02 Mar 10 - 06:34 AM Report. Did not discover any trad music on my visit. However there was a Canaries Trad "show" on the sea front in Los Cristianos on Thursday night. The musicians singers and dancers were in traditional period dress and the music song adn dance were very interesting. Would have liked to experience the music in a more natural setting but that was not to be on this occasion. |
