Will all of you who are genuinely interested in the Salwey music wkends or want to contact me about anything, please PM me your email addresses. You can also find me in Facebook. I'm very fed up with mudcat and am retiring.
I don't like the lack of control within one's own thread and the way one can't delete comments in threads. Over the last 3 yrs or so people have become sarcastic and bitchy, and you won't be surprised to learn that after some research I've found quite a few think the same.    Sal

Sal:

What you need is this thread. (That was my reaction to some uncalled for nastiness - not against me as it happens.)

And an e-hug: {{{hug}}}

I wonder how many people have just stopped using MudCat because of the totally unnecessary bitchiness that has become prevalent over the last couple of years .

Isn't it just a reflection of the way society has gone in the last couple of years? - maybe we have all become bitchier because of the circumstances we are living in.

I must admit I've seen little evidence of this. The occasional spat & barb pehaps, generally for the very best of reasons, and quickly made up at that. Overall Mudcat is very supportive and encouraging.

I began using Mudcat seven years ago to counter snide and ignorant ultra-folkist whingeings about a new(ish) young and talented performer who was just releasing his first CD. Indeed, many of these GEFFs admitted not ever having seen or heard this artist, but had garnered "opinions" from like-minded old gits.

What still pisses me off about Mudcat is that the Swigging Pig denizens still hang around like a bad smell, insisting that how they did it in 1965 is how it should be done now. No change or improvement because it's . . . yes . . . GEFF. To paraphrase a painkiller ad: NOTHING is GOOD ENOUGH for [insert word of choice for trad and roots music].

The anything goes apart from personal attacks [sic]policy, rings very hollow when you see some of the things that are allowed to stay undeleted.
Just because it isn't a personal attack doesn't stop it being nasty. Tasteless or offensive, and VERY nasty, unpleasant, and often very thinly disguised attacks in many cases, are allowed to remain.
These offend both those they are aimed at, along with visitors who wonder what sort of "MUSIC?" site we are running here.
It has been said that there are no rules on Mudcat, yet it appears that some rules are made up as we go along.
The refusal to allow open discussion of the way this site is run, negates any illusion that it is 'our' site, which it has been for most of it's existance, kept going by donations from members.
Many of those members have become disillusioned and moved on.
As Sal said, a quick straw poll will soon tell you that there is a lot of discontent about some aspects of Mudcat.
One of which is from a Catter who, when she complained about a thread to a moderator, got an abusive PM in return, from said moderator. Not very good PR I would have thought.
I expect this post will disappear very soon.

Well its still here just now John ! But it IS sad that so many nice people , like Sally , are leaving Mudcat because of the nastiness , which is SO seldom dealt with adequately by the Moderators .

Ayup.
And I'm closing this thread.
Experience has shown too long and too often, that threads like this are never productive.
And there's no way that we moderators can respond to complaints publicly, because most often they involve personal matters. If you have a complaint, contact me, Max, or Big Mick privately. I will say that....oh, well, maybe I'd better not say that.
Sorry.
