Does anyone know of a UK folk singer from the late 1960's called, Deena Webster? She had only one album out as far as I know called,
"Tuesday's Child." I have that one album and one single. I think she had a few singles out beside the one LP.
Seemed like she completely faded into obscurity. She had a lovely voice and played guitar. I don't know if she ever played folk clubs in England or not. If anyone has any information about her, what ever became of her, etc. I would like to know. Could not find much about her on the internet accept for mention of the album and single 45 record she recorded; not much else.

Deena still sings small folk spots, lives in Asia. Stopped recording early 70's. I have some news cuttings, she sang as the resident singer, BBC David Jacobs weekly show, late 60's, travelled around folksinging etc.,

I used to have the album "Tuesday's Child" and many of her singles also.....her first was "Your Losing" that I am trying to find on any blog site, to no avail.....Her next two singles "Scarborough Fair" and "Joey" I still have!!!!!I have the Album on my computer, but would love to have "Your Losing" also, as I dont have the single anymore!!!!!! I have not heard of her since the single "Joey" and also wondering what happened to this great and very underestimated singer from the late 60's...Sorry not much help....ciao

If you find any new information about Deena Webster please post it. It has been mentioned she moved to Asia and was performing there but don't know if that was current information or that she was performing there many years ago. Just no luck in finding anything about her in recent years. She had a lovely voice and had the one LP called, "Tuesday's Child" (which I still have) and a few singles all dating back to the late 60's (the album anyway).

I did read that Deena Webster is now living in Hong Kong, where I believe she lived as a child.

I remember her singles back in 1968. Her first single was a Janis Ian composition 'your losing'which got alot of airplay on radio 1 back in June of that year. That was followed by 'Your heart is free'(Just like the wind), A very beautiful song that also got alot of airplay in August '68 but did not chart. I remember Deena appearing on the radio 1 lunchtime slot 'Radio 1 club' and telling listeners that she had lived in Hong Kong. I guess she must have been in her late teens then. Weeks later another teenage singer- Mary Hopkin got to number 1 with a beautiful song 'those were the days'. She of course had Beatle connections.

Seems like many posts are saying that Deena Webster in living in Hong Kong.
Is she currently performing there? It seems like if she was still involved with music that there would have been another album released by now, if only just to re-release, Tueday's Child on CD.

Wonder if she is still playing folk music or some related acoustic music in Hong Kong. Just wish I knew how to contact her or her mgmt in Hong Kong for further information. I have that one album and a single record from the late 1960's.

Would love to hear her current music or any Cds she might have only released in Hong Kong.

There are different sellers on the site called GEMM that have some of her 45 records for sale at various prices. Check back there time to time to see if anyone is selling the album. I bought mine on EBAY about 10 years ago from some guy in France.

I was at school with Deena (Diana)and remember sitting under the cedar tree listening to her play and sing. She must be about 61/2-ish by now. I also remember seeing her on the David Jacobs show; it came as no great surprise that she achieved some fame, as she was clearly a very talented girl. A pity that she faded away; the school has gone, too!

Deena Webster records rarely get air play but today (31.08.2013)the 1968 single 'Your heart is free just like the wind' was played on BBC Radio 2's Sounds of the Sixties.The programme is avaibale for 1 week only from todays' date on the BBC iPlayer and the track is played from 28.57 to 31.31.The track is not available on CD or youtube.

I have found out that she was registered as a folk singer in the UK for 2 years professionally - at least in 1968/9 but that may have been when she was with Parlophone. There is evidence that she played as Dina Webster as early as 1966 in Newcastle but that may have been a typo in the programme. (that I have heard of but never seen). Oh, this is so maddening! Was the Jacobs programme on TV or live. If anyone saw here perform on his show for how many weeks was it. Does anyone recall anymore about her interviews.

I too have been trying to find out more about this very talented aritst. Perhaps others who worked with her on the album besides the person who was the arranger might be of some help. Other musicans, etc.
This is how I came to know of Deena Webster although I live in USA.
I was visiting London, England during the 70s' but I was very very young and didn't have too much money to spend. I saw the LP in a record shop that was in the Queensway or Bayswater area.
I wanted to buy the album - it was new but I think the day I was at that shop I didn't have enough money. Came back in a few days after I had gone to a bank to exchange some travelers cheques. Went back to the shop - but (the only copy on the shelf had been sold.)
I hadn't heard of Deena Webster but liked the songs on the record and thought it might be a good album.
So I was flying back to USA with my parents in a few days and never did get the record there. I did go back to London in later years during the 80's but never found it in a record shop - and I looked!

Fast forward to Ebay - and that's where I found it - for sale from a guy in France about 8 or 9 years ago now. So I finally found the record and have really enjoyed it over the last years.

Wish we could find out more about what Deena was doing in later years.
I love her cover of Janis Ian's "Hair of Spun Gold."

I know from reading previous posts that she had moved to Hong Kong years ago - not sure if it was for music or other reasons but that she sang in a movie produced in Hong Kong. I haven't been able to find anything about the movie or to hear if Deena did sing on the soundtrack. I don't think it was a well known movie - at least I had never heard of it being released in USA. Maybe it was a movie only available to be seen in Hong Kong.

Deena Webster records rarely get airplay (c.f.contact of 31.08.2013)but on December 14 2013 the 1969 single 'Joey' was played on BBC WM's (West Midland Local Station) 'Network Gold' (18.00-20.00).It is available to download for one week after broadcast and the track can be located from 01:50:04 to 01:53:40.

The CD (remastered) is currently available from Japan. I'd grab it quick as I suspect titles like this don't stay in print for long. I can attest to the sound quality as being incredible, as are most remasters coming from Japan.

Just saw this thread and I too have been wondering if Deena Webster is singing anywhere? Posts of her indicate she is in Hong Kong.
Perhaps she is performing in clubs there but I could not seem to find anything when I tried to research "Deena Webster singing/performing in Hong Kong."

We still have her record and I saw her in my teens at a folk club gathering in the 1960’s in Manchester and my sister saw her at the Albert Hall in London, she was young then and must be in her sixties now. I hope she kept singing.

Found out by the merest chance that magazine "The Record Collector" recently did a limited re-issued of her lone album on vinyl - and they actually tracked her down and talked to her. Brief article about her story in the Feb 2014 issue.

Yes, I agree. There was supposed to have been something she did
(music related) for a movie released in China many years ago.
However, I remember trying to do an on-line search for
it at the time, but could not find anything at all.

She recorded with EMI in Abbey Rd
Some demos of Deena in 1968 were cut but unreleased
No idea if she is alive but Sony has made a CD of the album Tuesday’s Child

Deena’s mother live£ in h9ng Kong, I think. Eden met and married an Englishman Peter Greene who worked for the Hong Kong bank in HK. They were later divorced.
