Have searched, so far in vain, for the dots of Burghee's Hole, which is otherwise known as The Beadle of Grubb Street. A very nice tune dating from 1748 and I believe with interesting origins. Please can anyone help? Thaks a lot.

I'm sure I've danced it, but it's not in the Ken Sheffield collection. Try searching the Library of Congress website. They have all the Playford tunes on-line, so may have others.
If you get no joy ask (or I'll ask for you) on the ECD list

Look it up in the National Tune Index microfiche, if a library near you has it. (1748 is well past Playford - you're talking about Walsh, Rutherford et all).

It was recorded, http://www.thomasbending.co.uk/discography.htm. But that's not what you are looking for.
Ahha, found it. It was first published in the Dancing Master by John Young. Republished in Fallibroome

(vol 4) in 1971 by Bernard Bentley. Newly republished by EFDSS
That give tune dots and dance notation for 102 18th century dances.

If you just want tunes, there are 436 including Burghees Hole in Barnes .
It's an American book and when they say English Country dancing, they mean Playford style, not ceilidh. So many of the tunes in that book will be old.

I was on the recording which Mo lists above. It was 1999 but I probably still have the dots. Give me a little time to find it and I'll be back.

Mitch

Mitch, that would be great, if you can find it. Thank you so much.
