From: Cuilionn
Date: 09 Apr 10 - 11:09 AM

Hello, Folks!

On May Day Eve, it seems fitting to celebrate the season with songs and good company.

Let us welcome in the May-O (and maybe the mustard and relish, too) with songs of the wild and good green Earth, songs of farms and fields, cows and crofts...
and let there be joyous potluckery, assorted acoustic instrumentation, and general merry-making as well!

WHEN: Friday, April 30th, 6:00 PM to 11:30ish PM
WHERE: Tir na nOg Farm, Pownal, Maine. Weather permitting, we'll gather around a bonfire, but if bugs or weather are bad, we'll head inside. (PM for directions)
WHY: Because we can!

P.S. Our chickens politely request that no dogs be brought who may be prone to chasing poultry. It addles their eggs!

--Cuilionn (a.k.a. The Other Holly) and the Piper, the cows, the pigs, the dog, the cat, and all the little chickens in the garden at
Tir na nOg Farm.

I will be coming directly from work so it may limit potluck food. Maybe wine and cheese? But please PM directions.
This will be fun.

Are you ladies in for Martyn Wyndam Read on the 17th?

I'm hoping to be there, maybe with Kendall in tow. We'll leave Seamus home, although I think his chicken chasing days are long gone. I can do pot luck - any suggestions?

Inside would be better for me at that time of the evening - I really do have a bad reaction to mosquito bites and they always find me first!

Mary-- Not sure about Martyn's concert-- I may have a church gig the next morning. But consider us a maybe. I'll PM directions soon.

Potluck food: wine and cheese is certainly welcome. We have plenty of beef, pork and eggs thanks to the farm, so we get pretty excited at the chance to eat...well, anything else! (That said, heck, beef & pork & eggs are okay to bring, too. We're NOT fussy!)

MacDonald's? Pizza? Chateau Briand? If so, what year? (Ask Kendall...)

Thanks, Maeve. I feel refreshed! :-)

Musing on potluckery...pizza would not be turned down. Nor would anything that once had scales and swam in the sea. Hearty soups, fresh greens, fruit salad, quiches and pies of any type or size...

and while I'm dreaming, how 'bout chocolate and single malt whisky?

But mostly, we want folks to bring themselves & good (or pleasantly ridiculous) music. Poetry's welcome too!

Do we know numbers, for catering purposes.

Chilli made, trifle ingredients bought, although you'll have to make do with Jello pie filling as custard doesn't seem to be a possibility in this neck of the woods!

By my count, we have:

4 Mudcatters (possibly six)
3 Random Locals (possibly four)
and
2 FarmGaels.

Julia-- I agree with Ranger1-- salad sounds lovely!
Everyone else's contributions sound stellar.

Sue and I are thinking of playing with our crockpot. Would Cuban shredded pork and rice be okay?

Shame on you Tami!! A naked salad indeed... though, come to think of it, it is Mayday. Woohoo! Are we going to cavort and make merry? We could do something silly with the salad dressing...!? Will there be fire? There has to be fire... it wouldn't be Beltain without a good, roaring fire with flames and stuff--- Heeheehee

I had a wonderful evening. Two Sues, a Holly, Fred, Julia, David, Michael, Tami, Helen and one more - ? and me plus a host of clucking, squealing, cocck-a-doodle-doing, mooing, purring, barking -you get the picture.
A full moon added to the magic.
Lots of spring songs and poetry. Fred and Julia's music is always a joy. It was magical. Thank you ladies. Your home is perfect.
Food was good too. LOL

It was indeed a magical evening. Everyone's songs and poems were delightful offerings on a very sweet May Eve. And ooooooh, the potluck food and drink! We feel utterly blessed.

Only one question on the morning after: Why is my refrigerator still full of eggs?

(Guess I couldn't bring myself to think of commerce in an evening so full of gifts!)

Love to all-- Let's make this a regular happening!

Well done, gaels. there are plans for a summer solstice doodah up Damariscotta way at a friend's lakeside cabin. Will keep you posted

FOUR WET PIGS
(Greg Brown)

Here's a little song about four wet pigs
Here's a little song about four wet pigs
Two of 'em little and two of 'em big
They danced all night at the Pigtown Jig

The two that were little were just half-grown
The two that were big were big as a barn
Big as a barn and tall as a tree
Took 'em right down to the factory

Slice 'em into bacon, chop 'em into ham
Roll 'em into hot dogs, squeeze 'em into Spam*
Throw their little eyes out in the rain
Pickle their feet and scramble their brains

Here's a little song about two wet pigs
Standin' by the slop trough, smokin' their cigs
Hopin' to God that they never get big
They danced all night at the Pigtown Jig
