The Dundonald

Looking through my old LP's I found "Scots Wha Hae Nae", by the Dundonald, Fontana SFJL971, dated 1968,sleeve notes by Hugh MacDiarmuid. It is an excellent LP, but the sleeve notes make no mention of who they are. Anybody out there know who they were,(or still are)?

One of them was definitely Archie Fisher (he sings "Wae's Me For Prince Charlie" and another I think was Wat Nicoll.

I've just uploaded the entire album to Youtube. From a copy in the collection of Fraser Bruce, one of the singers on the album.

There was no such band. Apart from Archie, as mentioned above, the singers (and players?) are different on every track. As yet, I have no idea why this album was made and why it was relased under a made-up name. I can say that it seems to be a Bill Leader production, recorded in a flat in St Georges Cross in Glasgow.

And the sleeve notes by Hugh MacDiarmid are taken/stolen from an earlier Jim McLean LP on Nigel Denver.

Bill Leader does remember this LP, although he says Archie Fisher had more to do with it all than he did, and he certainly couldn't remember who the singers were, but that the 'Dundonald' was a pub!
Bill also said there had been a lot of discussion on Facebook recently about the LP.
Now I have no idea how to find such information on facebook, so could someone point us in the right direction, or maybe identify who the singers were? No one els does!

If you search for Gavin Paterson Dundonald on Facebook, you should find some of Gavin's posts and discussions about it. Might need to scroll through a bit - dated around 11 Jan 2020. Roy Williamson of The Corries is singing Parcel o Rogues, other singers are thought to be Bob Bertram, Geordie McIntyre and others. A very curious production!
