I am led to believe from a reliable source that when Rounder was sold the field recordings remained with Bill Knowlin. Some of this material appears on the series the North American Traditions Collection a series being issued by the Field Recorders Collective. 16 albums all have massive, and I do mean massive notes, photographs and research freely available on their website. If you miss Rounder then Field Recorders Collective is the place for you. I have the first five discs so far.

One sees the new/used stuff at American flea markets, boot sales &c often enough.

Rounder Records -- Discogs, sorted by year. A bit misleading as the site lists each every colour vinyl &c as an individual, stand-alone release. 2023 to date:
Bella White
Sierra Ferrell
Samantha Fish & Jesse Dayton
Logan Ledger
Rushton Kelly
Amythyst Kiah
Cody Jinks

I haven't heard much about Rounder in the ten years since they were sold to Concord. Are they still publishing? Is the Lomax Collection still available what about the recordings Mike & Peggy Seeger did from their mother's songbooks for children? Good thing I bought most of those 20 years ago, when I was working for a living.

A history of ROUNDER by co founder Bill Nowlin
VINYL VENTURES, Equinox, 2021.
https://www.equinoxpub.com/home/vinyl-ventures/
Vinyl Ventures

"Nowlin . . . writes with warmth and candor. . . It's a lively history of a business, of roots and Americana music, and the changes over the last half-century of recording and releasing." --The Boston Globe

"The book is impressive in its detailing of what it was like to build such a company and the many travails they experienced over the years. The index of albums alone is a fascinating trip into decades of roots music." --Halsey, Derek, Bluegrass Unlimited, August 2021

"Nowlin's enthusiasm for Rounder Records and what they built never falters, and provides the reader with endless streams of personal investigation and reflection." --Teplyske, Donald, countrystandardtime.com

Thomas.

They (Concord/Rounder) have a mailing list. Have not seen anything
of the traditional folk material. Someone thought some is available streaming. IMO the great value of the CDs were the extensive annotations in the accompanying booklet.
The secondary market has many of the "good stuff" - but sometimes at
exorbitant prices.

Amazon has a lot of CD-R reissues of old albums (not rounder), execrable quality, with nothing for notes, sometimes not even a track list. There
was a Cuban music album in the Columbia Legacy series with extensive notes which is available on Amazon as a CD-R but no notes. And the product description gives no hint these are inferior offerings.

I have no idea what the market is for this, obviously not enough for Concord to keep them in print. Wonder if downloads which include
the booklets in PDF format would have a market?

Cheers, Thomas.
