Sad to report that my singing buddy of over 40 years in the Brighton Taverners died today.

Oh! I knew he had been ill a while ago but thought he was better. That really is a shocker. Such a nice chap and a lovely performer. I will miss him.

That really is a blow. Like Mary, I thought he was on the mend and was wondering about offering him a booking. A great voice and a lovely man. A sad loss to Sussex folk music.

This is awful news. I had no idea he had become so ill again so suddenly. Please keep us posted about funeral arrangements, charity donations and flowers.

Valmai

His family have requested donations to The Martlets Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Many of us will be gathering afterwards at The Open House pub in Springfield Road, Brighton.

Very sad. He was one of the good guys. I still have the email from him in my inbox after he was unable to make the Folk and Blues club a few weeks ago. We'll be raising a glass at the Bridge,

Peter was a long-distance friend for many years, after we worked together briefly in Brighton. I now live in Canada and will not be able to attend the service. This may be an odd request, but for those of you attending the service or the pub afterwards, will someone please raise a glass to Peter on my behalf? I'd be grateful.
Thank you.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Peter was a lovely, kind and gentle man with interesting views and I always enjoyed chatting to him.

Thank you for letting us know Stuart. Sorry I won't be able to go the funeral but my sympathy to you and the rest of the Taverners.

with sympathy & hugs
Elizabeth

Pete was singing at the Bull in Ditchling only a few months ago. He turned up at the last but two monthly sessions and didn't sing, but it was good to see him. He knew his time was limited but he was still the same cheerful, chatty person we'd known for years. It doesn't seem like 30+ years ago that I first saw the Taverners in the old Concorde bar by the Brighton Aquarium, with Pete in full voice.

I can't make the funeral tomorrow, but I shall raise a glass to him in my local.

RIP.

Just come across this, very late I know. I met him briefly when I was placed at Whitehawk Primary School for my first teaching practice in 1972. He would sing with his class at the end of the day, and the children loved it. I can still hear them doing 'Streets Of London'. Needless to say, the children loved him too.

RIP

I just came across this. Very sad. I wasn't taught directly by Peter but he taught the other class in my year group at Coombe Road. He made a big impression. I still remember the songs he used to teach and his sense of humour (most of which went over my head being about 8 at the time).

I'm sure I'm just one of hundreds who lives were enriched as children by Peter's teaching.

I cannot believe it. I got to know him from the late 60s and knew him as every girls's heartthrob. A sad loss to both the folk world and to life in general. Now off to play the Taverners EP in memory.
