Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: mandotim Date: 14 Jun 10 - 02:50 AM Just back from a cracking festival. Great acts, good weather, well organised without being officious. Well done to the organisers, and we'll see you next year! |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: Sooz Date: 14 Jun 10 - 07:13 AM Excellent weekend but despite walking around wearing my Mudcat T-shirt I only saw two other Mudcatters. Still, there were a lot of people there! Managed to get off the campsite without being towed which is always a bonus. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: Mavis Enderby Date: 14 Jun 10 - 08:43 AM It was pretty damn good, keeps getting better each year. Hats off to the organisers, volunteers, performers and punters. Pete. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: Aeola Date: 14 Jun 10 - 10:28 AM My first time but what a great atmosphere! As you say, a lot of people there but smiles all round. Well done to the organisers, and their helpers. I'll be there next year plus a few friends!! |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: GUEST Date: 14 Jun 10 - 01:22 PM Yes we really enjoyed it too. Well organised yet it felt laid back - sparkling loos and even had HOT water in showers on the campsite! Saw some great acts and also introduced our friend who are festival virgins to this enthralling sub-culture. I think they liked it. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: autoharpbob Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:06 AM Wonderful weekend. Being fairly new to the folk scene, I was able to see for the first time a lot of the "greats" that I have only heard of, like Jez Lowe and Vin Garbutt, as well as wonderful new acts like QP and John Smith. And I wasn't the only autoharp - one of the Morris sides included one! Good food too! |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: GUEST,Ticketseller Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:30 AM Couldn't find a single criticism to put on the feedback sheet! An excellent festival. Specially enjoyed 4 men and a dog & the Tom McConville band. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: mikesamwild Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:40 AM How is Southwell pronounced? Just to settle an argument |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: Arthur_itus Date: 15 Jun 10 - 08:57 AM two ways South well or Suthell |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: mandotim Date: 15 Jun 10 - 09:24 AM I've only ever heard it pronounced Suth-ell, as heard on the horse racing commentaries. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: Sooz Date: 15 Jun 10 - 11:50 AM South-well by those who were born and brought up there. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: mandotim Date: 15 Jun 10 - 12:34 PM Thanks Sooz; you learn something every day! The same thing applies to Slaithwaite near Huddersfield, by the way; Locals tend to use 'Slay-thwaite', whereas those not from the town say 'Slough-it'. |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: mikesamwild Date: 15 Jun 10 - 03:41 PM ie Slawit not Sluffit? |
Subject: RE: Southwell Festival UK Who's going? From: autoharpbob Date: 15 Jun 10 - 03:46 PM I'd heard it was Southwell if you are talking about the town, but Suthell if it is the Minster |
