Apologies if there is already a thread but I couldn't find one.

Following last July's highly successful seminar at Murton Park, York,
we are running another one on July 26th this year, again aimed at teachers and music leaders but all are welcome.

Responding to feedback from last year this year we are running two practical full day workshops, Pete Coe on folk song in education and Sue Coe on Yorkshire Longsword in education.

Unfortunately we haven't managed to obtain funding this year so we are asking a cover charge of a fiver for the full day.

Further details can be obtained at www.yorkshirefolksong.net or direct from me.

This should certainly be of interest to all in Yorkshire (and beyond)!

Song and Longsword are skills at the root of our traditions and such sought after facilitators for schools and from the existing folk club and sword teams are all most welcome

Turn the telly off and support your traditions!

Come to the Murton [nr York] event and take the skills back to your town!

Pete and Sue are experienced leaders, dont let the Scots have all the fun!!

Steve Gardham is also a very experienced practitioner, singer and musician!

Check out the details on our web site!! as stated above

Thanks, Willa.
Coincidentally we have just started work on an interactive map for the website showing where all the songs came from.

Steve - I have just obtained a book containing songs from the Kidson Collection called ENGLISH PEASANT SONGS. Many songs seem very relevant.

If you don't have the book I'd happily loan it to you.

Hi Hazel,
Thanks for the generous offer but I have all of Kidson's Folk Music works. I don't think there's anything in this volume that is Yorkshire in content that we haven't already got. But do by all means suggest any you think may be relevant. Isn't this the one compiled by his Niece Ethel after his death?

The traditional skills and pastimes should in my view not be lost to progress and lack of practice

A number of practioners and no doubt yourselves as attendees have much to offer

I know that there are Longsword teams out there who are short of members! and that there are youngsters who may be delighted in setting up their own teams etc

Please dont tell us that workshops dont exist and that these skills are dying

They are here!!

Ray

CANCELLED
Despite notifying all of last year's attendees and advertising in all the usual places accessible to teachers and music leaders we have had such a small reponse this year that the event is not viable and therefore regretably we are cancelling. Thanks to the few that expressed an interest. Maybe some other time!
