Subject: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 18 Jun 10 - 04:52 PM Only two months now until the second Moira Furnace festival. Last year's was absolutely brilliant and I know word has spread so hopefully we will have more people and an even better festival. If you haven't bought your tickets or volunteered to steward, now is the time to do it. http://www.moirafurnacefolkfestival.co.uk/ So...who's going? Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: OlgaJ Date: 24 Jun 10 - 03:33 AM Lots of people we know are coming but most of them are not mudcatters. We've been passing round publicity at folk clubs, 'What's the Point' gigs and the few festivals we have managed to get to so far this year. Suspect ticket sales will be up on last year. Looking forward to playing again. |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: My guru always said Date: 24 Jun 10 - 04:14 AM There's no way I'd miss Moira, it's a magical Fest!!! And there might be a MudGather too..... |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: GUEST,Brenda Date: 24 Jun 10 - 04:16 AM Have downloaded and printed the Stewards form, just have to fill it in and post it. But intend to be there either way. Have worked out I can get there on my Bus Pass. Yippee |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 26 Jun 10 - 02:07 AM I believe we've already sold more tickets than we did last year. We now just have to make sure it stays at a nice size and doesn't get too big. Brenda, sorry I haven't replied to your message yet...I'm told train to Burton and then bus is a good way to get there. Does the bus pass cover trains? I had to ask cos, to be honest, public transport round here stinks so I don't tend to use it. In case anyone is interested, I spotted a rather nice cottage on the edge of fields in Netherseal (Coupla miles from Moira) doing B&B for anyone that way inclined. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: VirginiaTam Date: 29 Jun 10 - 04:35 PM Just printed off the form. will complete and post this week. We will be in Burton U Trent dropping off the step son after 4/5 days/nights in Castlerigg Hall Caravan park. Need to find an interim campsite with laundry facilities for Thursday 19 August near Burton or Moira. Hi Lynne.... we may actually get to meet face to face. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: My guru always said Date: 29 Jun 10 - 07:09 PM You're so right Lynne, it mustn't get too big!!! Why on earth are we telling everyone about this fantastic festival?? We should be keeping it to ourselves..... |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: GUEST,Brenda Date: 30 Jun 10 - 04:03 AM Yes Hils it is me I will try and get Sarah to sort my cookie. Thanks Lynne but no I can't use my bus pass on train so I will do the bus thing. See you all soon, can't wait. Will be so nice to go to somewhere new but by the sounds of it a lot of old friends. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Eye Lander Date: 30 Jun 10 - 05:36 AM Yoooo Hoooo fresh from FolkStation We'll be a coming up from the Isle of Wight, and I think som of you are coming here first. Here's to new festivals. Cheers Peeps. do we need to tickets in advance??? Jillie |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: VirginiaTam Date: 30 Jun 10 - 12:55 PM decided to book online via paypal. just easier. looking at interim campsite for Thursday night. Looks like it will be Utoxeter racecourse caravan site. Why am I looking more forward to Moira than Sidmouth? I will be newbie to both. Think it is because I fear Sidders is too big. Too much to do and I will be disappointed i missed something in favour of something else. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: My guru always said Date: 30 Jun 10 - 02:02 PM VT, you'll love Moira!! |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: VirginiaTam Date: 30 Jun 10 - 02:56 PM ok... so we had to book 7 days at Ullswater and thinking may stay Thursday night and come straight from there to Moira on Friday though it is a long drive. When do things start heating (pardon the pun) up at the Furnace on Friday? |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MuddleC Date: 30 Jun 10 - 03:17 PM all right lynne, the ratcatcher will be volunteering for stewed custard |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Bounty Hound Date: 30 Jun 10 - 05:13 PM The Bounty Hounds will be 'heating up' the Furnace at 10.30pm on Friday and again at 4.15pm on Sunday (Main Stage) John |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: GUEST,Two of a Hind Date: 01 Jul 10 - 06:39 AM Will there be any singarounds in the pubs this year on Friday and Saturday evening. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Carol Date: 01 Jul 10 - 01:10 PM Looking forward to our second visit |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 03 Jul 10 - 04:11 AM Gosh! You don't look at a thread for a few days and suddenly everyone's posting to it! Virginia, if you contact the campsite stewards, you could probably camp on Thursday night, though it looks as though you won't want to do that now. We get to meet face to face twice then, cos I shall be at Sidmouth too. I'll be in the Middle Bar, so let me know who you are. Oh Jillie I'm soooo glad you're coming! You should be able to get tickets on the gate no problem, though booking on-line is easy now we have Paypal. Tim...I wondered where you'd got to! Mike Gibson (Cllr) will sing the introductory song from the top of the furnace at 4.00 after which there will be a singaround in the Loft. Then there's heaps on Friday evening: ceilidh, concerts, singarounds and sessions.....should (we hope) be whatever you want to do!) Yes, there will be sessions in both pubs from Friday evening (I hope..the woodman managed to book a band on the Friday evening last year, unfortunately) and, hopefully, the whole time the pubs are open. I need people to drop in to both pubs and "Stoke the fire" cos the times they are used are too long to have people running them all the time. Besides, I want people to be able to do what they want and I don't want them to get too formal. The only danger of not having leaders is that people will call in, find nothing going on and go away again, so anyone who can and is willing, please go in and make sure things are happening. Two of a Hind, I'm told, on very good authority, that you are good at this sort of thing so it would be great if you could help me. Loosely speaking, I'd like tunes in the Railway and a mixture in the Woodman, but that's not a firm thing. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Andy Jackson Date: 03 Jul 10 - 06:22 AM Hi Lynne, hers done tickets and ferry 'n everthin' So looking forward to it. Andy xxxxxxx |

Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: VirginiaTam Date: 04 Jul 10 - 06:36 AM sorry to say... not us. next year hopefully. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Mo the caller Date: 05 Jul 10 - 04:01 AM Well I'd never heard of it, but google found this I didn't recognise any of the guest list, can someone tell us more about them. E.g. are they singer-songwriters, traditional singers, or what. Are there any tunes sessions? Mind you, I don't want to miss any of Whitby, so I wont be going. Enjoy yourselves, if you are. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: OlgaJ Date: 05 Jul 10 - 07:09 AM This is a something for everyone at a very good price festival. Booked artists include singer/songwriters, traditional singers,a large vocal group, ceilidh bands, folk rock bands, comedy singers and solo artists. Apologies if I've left any style out. There are song sessions on site and tune and song sessions in the village pubs,Ceilidhs on Friday and Saturday night, Morris Dancers, and a Civil War Re-enactment display. There is definitely something for everyone. Some of the acts listed have websites so you can find out more about them online. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Sue the Borderer Date: 06 Jul 10 - 09:23 AM Does anyone know when the Festival Campsite opens on the Friday? (I know people can stay over til Monday morning, which is good news.) I shall be running Herbaceous Border at Moira this year, so do come along and do some border morris (even if you've never danced before). I've got lots of sticks people can borrow and plenty of spare jackets too - but if you want to play you'll need your own instrument! I didn't go last year - but it sounds great. Sue |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 07 Jul 10 - 05:29 AM There will be someone manning the campsite from Thursday so you should be ok any time Friday. I will find out this evening when it officially opens and post back. Also checking out local B&Bs. And don't forget that there is a super new youth hostel just up the road at Conkers. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 10 Jul 10 - 04:48 AM We still need more stewards and I need a few musicians prepared to commit themselves to starting tune sessions in one of the pubs as well as ones to pop in and play to keep things going It's all looking good and I'm really beginning to look forward to it Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: OlgaJ Date: 11 Jul 10 - 11:25 AM |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: OlgaJ Date: 11 Jul 10 - 11:29 AM I'm sure we filled in a steward form ages ago. We are around all weekend to help out with whatever needs doing. |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Phot Date: 11 Jul 10 - 11:38 AM Not sure how things are going to pan out for us in August, due to work and other commitments. But we would like to come if we can, whats the chances of getting tickets at short (Very!) notice? Wassail!! Chris |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: John J Date: 11 Jul 10 - 01:01 PM We're coming along, I'll be musicianing for Herbaceous Border but I'm certainly up for playing in the pub sessions too - as long as it doesn't interfere with H.B. commitments. JJ |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: MBSLynne Date: 12 Jul 10 - 02:49 AM Chris you should be ok buying short-notice tickets. I don't think we're going to sell out in advance! And you would be a great asset to the Shanty session. (And to the whole festival of course) John that would be great. If I check out when Herbaceous is programmed, can I put you in to get a session going? Thanks Olga, I think the committee is working on that premise! Don;t know if you're on the actual stewards' list or not. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Moira Furnace Folk Festival From: Cats Date: 12 Jul 10 - 02:34 PM Mo ~ I'm there too although not on the artists list yet, I am a storyteller from Cornwall and I also sing unaccompanied, mainly traditional but with a bit of Music Hall, gospel and recently written as well. Cats alias Kathy Wallis |
