Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod From: GUEST,Guest, Marnie Date: 16 Jul 10 - 09:58 AM Lots of great music and a community of folks who welcome both newcomers and old friends. Since everyone who spends the weekend is in the same facility for all activities, getting together informally is easy. Earlier iterations of the festival [S.Dartmouth, MA, Brooklyn Poly, Renaissance School in Queens] form the musical foundation for a truly wonderful weekend. See you there?? |
Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 16 Jul 10 - 10:27 AM I've stayed at the Hudson Valley Resort a couple of times - the Northeast Folk Alliance holds it's annual conference there (this year's NERFA is taking place the following weekend), and it is very nice hotel. The food was very good, the accommodations for an event like this are superb, and I guarantee everyone will enjoy their time at Eisteddfod. I think this might be the best setting yet for Eisteddfod! I am really looking forward to this! No excuses, everyone who has been thinking about going should seize this opportunity - it will be great fun! |

Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 16 Jul 10 - 11:43 AM I have been on several Eisteddfod weekends including last years one. At every one I have heard grand music from performers who were previously only names to me, and have enjoyed the wonderful pervading spirit of camaraderie. Looking at this years line-up I can tell you that the British artists will please everyone, Sheila Stewart comtinues the traditions of her famous singing, storytelling Scottish family. Benny Graham may be less well known to USA listeners, but let me tell you, it's a real scoop to have him there. Benny has a wonderful voice, a heartfelt style, an a terrific store of songs. He is very knowledgeable on the traditions of his native North East England. Miss him at your peril. Have a good Eisteddfod folks. I wish I could be there. |

Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod From: NY Pinewoods Date: 31 Aug 10 - 12:44 PM We lifted and adapted some of the following description from NERFA, which is being held at the Hudson Valley Resort one week after the Eisteddfod. The information is just as correct for us as it is for them: This year we will be going to the Hudson Valley Resort and conference center The HVR has recently changed hands, and the new owners have invested several million dollars in renovating, upgrading, and creating a very comfortable and beautiful resort and spa. The conference rooms are much better than those we used last year at another site. More importantly, the sleeping rooms are newly renovated, clean, and fresh. Once known as the Granite, the Hudson Valley Resort is one of the surviving grand hotels from the heyday of the Catskills. Like the other grand hotels of that bygone era, it boasts of many amenities, including expansive lobbies, a baby grand piano, and lots of nooks and crannies that make great jamming spaces. If you want to check out this place, please visit their website: www.HudsonValleyResort.com |
Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod From: GUEST,alice edelman Date: 31 Aug 10 - 02:55 PM I regretted having missed last year's Eisteddfod. Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod-Nov 5-7, 2010 From: GUEST,Eisteddfod Committee Date: 02 Nov 10 - 04:05 PM In addition to the excellent musicians signed up to perform, some outstanding musicians are attending the festival. A few have been asked to participate in a workshop. See the schedule at www.folkfestny.org. Others will be listening, jamming, and sharing tunes. Someone told us that what is exciting about this weekend is mixing with the performers and hanging out with people whose recordings you have bought, etc. If you have not registered yet, there are still rooms available. Go to www.folkfestny.org. There are also day rates. Unfortunately Benny Graham had to cancel; he is ill. John Roberts, winner of the 2008 Eisteddfod award, gracefully agreed to appear. Debbie Lan has been added to the program. We will have more vendors this year, so bring $$$. The weather forecasters tell us it may be brisk or cold outside. If you don't want to hike, or play golf or tennis, there is a heated indoor swimming pool and there are spa services, if you can tear yourself away from the music. |

Early feedback indicates that people had a wonderful time enjoying the music, the facilities, and the good company. While it is far too early to announce a specific date, we do hope you can join us at the 2011 Eisteddfod when the time comes. |
Subject: RE: Festival of Trad. Music, Eisteddfod-Nov 5-7, 2010 From: GUEST,Eisteddfod Committee Date: 08 Nov 10 - 11:19 AM Correction: I had said that John Roberts gracefully agreed to perform at Eisteddfod. At the festival someone pointed out my error. I really meant that he GRACIOUSLY agreed to perform. Now that the festival has happened, those attending seemed tired, but happy. (Some were jamming until 4 or 5 AM). There were different favorite performers, workshops, food, etc. but overall it was GOOD. However I can report that while John Roberts agreed graciously, he performed with his usual (super) skill at music and communication, and at the contra he danced gracefully. |
