Subject: Review: THE DARWIN SONG PROJECT
From: GUEST,Alan Surtees

The whole of the Darwin Song Project concert, recorded at Theatre Severn last March, is now available (sound and vision) on the festival web site - Video Section.

I have just watch the whole thing (about 1hr 40 minutes)and it is remarkably good, I had forgotten just how good. The sound and picture quality is fine and I watched a good deal of it on full screen without feeling too short changed on picture quality.

The Song Project Artists are Chris Wood, Karine Polwart, Mark Erelli, Rachael McShane, Jez Lowe, Stu Hanna, Krista Detor and Emily Smith.

Alan

It started out as a good idea but it is so heavy into singer/songwriterishness.
I couldn't undertand the mumbling words which is so characteristic of singer/songwriters
today. I guess you need a lyric sheet or words piped in under (subtitles) to understand what's going on.

I don't care for the idea of Darwin being so sentimentalized, also.

It would be good to get some feedback on sound and picture quality. The technology is improving all the time, and we want to deliver more content like this in the future. It seems unlikely that mainstream TV programme providers will ever take more than a fleeting glance at the folk world, so perhaps, as the internet seems to be the new platform for AV delivery we can pioneer our own on-demand folk programmes.

a long way to go yet, but we will keep working on it.

What do you think?
